 | [Networking] Upgrading to Rev I To Improve Wireless Coverage? I am in the process of planning a network infrastructure upgrade for my house (we only recently moved in). In all likelihood, I will be running CAT6/RG-6 throughout the house, Cat6 from the ONT to the router, etc. In the meantime, however, I need to find something quick to improve wireless coverage. Additionally, our Rev F has been somewhat flaky lately. If I can get a Rev I for around $50, is it worth it? Is the performance/wireless coverage that much better than a Rev F? I know it 150mbps N versus 65N. |

 | [Networking] Re: Upgrading to Rev I To Improve Wireless Coverage While the Rev I is a slightly better router with better wireless hardware, it might improve your coverage some. For $50, it doesn't sound like you'd lose much and might as well get it for the gigabit lan. In any case you can always add wireless AP's to areas of the house with the cat 6 you're going to run in the event that the Rev I doesn't cover areas of your house. |

 | Thanks wifiguy. I did end up purchasing it off ebay last night, so we will see if it helps. I'll post back with my thoughts on the new one versus the Rev F. Appreciate your help. |

In my experience, the Rev I had way worse wifi coverage than the Rev F. Could just be my radio going out tho. As stated in this thread, your best option for improving wireless coverage is setting up another/additional APs |

If you are planning a network infrastructure upgrade, then you should also include multiple Access Points as part of that. A properly setup WiFi network requires multiple APs to get proper coverage and prevent congestion or saturation. |

Thanks everyone. Hopefully the Rev I will have better, not worse, coverage. Any recommendations for affordable N900 or ACxxxx wireless access points? Haven't decided which direction to go, although by the time I get around to wiring everything it will probably be AC.

Same here, I read that the antennas on the I transmit less power than previous versions. -- 75/35 Fios, Triple Play Extreme. |

Re: [Networking] Upgrading to Rev I To Improve Wireless Coverage I've been running the Rev I for about an hour now. Seems stable enough, although wireless coverage was about the same. Replacing the antenna's with higher gain ones helped a bit. The router is actually Frontier branded, which is a bit annoying as it won't let me replace the firmware with a Verizon version and the Frontier version doesn't appear to let the user even check for upgrades. Either way though, I am happy so far considering what I paid for it, which was less than half of what Verizon is now asking for their so-called "Advanced" router. |

Which higher gain antenna did you replace it with? -- 75/35 Fios, Triple Play Extreme. |

 | I actually had two rev E routers and took the fatter antennas off them and put both on the rev I and I do get better coverage using the fatter ones. |

Can non-Actiontec antennas be used? -- 75/35 Fios, Triple Play Extreme. |
