Compare China 3 requests to the US 7014 requests or even Canada's 69 requests. I'm surprised there aren't more comments about this given what a hot issue 'privacy' is to people but perhaps facts sort of nullify the conversation or something.

These numbers only reflect requests made on an official channel.
They don't include the self serv backdoor access favored by China's & Canada's LE

On the other paw, Canada's 69 requests vs the US 7014 requests make Canada look soft on cyber crime.

I wish they were softer! All your statement actually indicates is YOUR level of ignorance. It's ignorance like that that's allowed the NSA free rein to do whatever the hell they like.

This is Canada we don't have cyber crime and we just take kiddie porn folks out to the back forty and apply the 3S solution (shoot, shovel and shut-up).

Years ago I would have been involved in some of those requests and Microsoft was always very professional and helpful once you had all your ducks etc lined up. Information was never given without the required court documents etc completed first.

If you look at the totality of my post reply you may notice a slight hint at what is often referred to as "tongue & cheek" comment.
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongue-in-cheek

Anyway, if you read the Microsoft statement that qualify the disclosure of LE requests you would have read this important caveat:
"We believe this data is valuable and useful to the community that is looking to better understand these issues. However we recognize that this report—focused on law enforcement and excluding national security—only paints part of the picture."

What that means is that this report is about requests from the FBI, State Police, City & County Police/Sheriff (local police) with absolutely nothing to do with NSA requests.

My apologies for initially not being clearer.
