 | Any tips for sanitizing new computers on my network? Some family members are going to staying with me for a few weeks. What should I do to their computers before allowing them on my network? I was thinking of burning a few files to a disk and then just scanning every computer before allowing them on. Any other ideas? |

1 recommendation | Does your router have guest network functionality? Both my old ZyXEL NBG-334W and my current ASUS RT-N66R do. I only allow visiting family or other visitors to use the guest network. The guest network is totally isolated from the private network my wife and I use for our desktop, laptop, multi-function printer and iPad/iPod Touch devices.

May not be able to do much to their PCs / devices. For your's, here's a good checklist :
- updated anti-X signatures and rerun said anti-X program. - ensured latest patches are installed. - ensure backups are run and securely stored. - ensure critical programs and licence keys are readily available (eg. have to reinstall Windows) in case a nuke and pave is
needed. - change your passwords -- Windows, wireless, etc. esp. if they have to be handed out to said visiting family members
Otherwise, SoonerAl 's suggestions are good ones
