[Pricing] Upgrade to 50/25 for $10 -- Isn't

Chatted with VZ this evening asking about the upgrade offers for current customers-- upgrade to 50/25 for $10 more, or 75/35 for $20 more. The 50/25 offer has been discussed in this forum, and the 75/35 offer is here.

You know the ads-- the ones that say you can upgrade with no strings attached, and cancel the "extra" speed and return to your previous tier at any time. They say nothing about only applying to bundle customers, but the VZ rep said it's ONLY for bundle customers. I'm a data-only customer.

If I upgraded to 50/25, I'd have to renew for another 2-year term (my 2-year term expired long ago) and my rate would increase nearly $40/mo. over what I'm paying now. The 75/35 upgrade would be nearly $60/mo. over current.

No strings attached? Untrue.
$10 or $20 extra per month? Untrue.

The reps on chat are sometimes stupid and sometimes not. Mostly they are.

You should just call them.

Phone reps have a bad habit of giving bad info, too. I'm fighting them right now on a location that was supposed to be cancelled in May. I have the ticket number, and my original conversation well documented with who, when, etc. Yet we keep getting billed. I keep calling, get transferred around, am told they will research it and call me back.... and my phone never rings.

Verizon's network is great but their customer service is the WORST I've ever dealt with. I thought Paetec was bad, until I had to deal with VZ.

keepcalling

@verizon.net

Keep calling. It affects their call numbers. Your number is tracked each time you call in. As you know it's a very large company and there's lots of people that don't know anything about your issue. At some point you're bound to get a person to fix it.

I upgraded to the higher speed but didn't see much improvement so I wanted to switch back - they told me my old speed is no longer available ... so be aware ...

Use the Verizon Direct section of this website. They are amazing. I had a ten month billing problem that no combination of phone calls, letters, or complaints to the state could solve. The phone guys were particularly awful. On this Site I got my problem resolved in just a couple of days.

Tried that-- tech jumped on it pretty quick, and verified that I should be able to get that. So I called billing back. This time the problem wasn't lack of a bundle, it was that my account was too old (same service since 2008) and there was no way she could put a $10 add-on to my account. Said the only way for me to get 50/25 was to start over with a new 2-year term at the $90/mo. price.

So all of those Verizon press releases, web pages, and ads, that say "all" current FIOS customers can upgrade... are apparently a lie. Two different reps have said No.

Mind you, I have no "special" pricing in the way of an employee discount, special promo, or anything else. I signed up online in 2008 for a 2-year term at the then-current rate for 15/5, and since my term ran out, I've had one rate increase. As straightforward as it gets.

So their "all current FIOS subscribers" come-on is a load of crap. I'm a subscriber, and I'm not eligible.

That happened to me a year ago regarding a different speed and they just gave me a 12 month credit of $10/mo to cover the cost difference on the new speed.

I'm data only and none of that happened to me. I am data only and was on the 15/5 plan for $54.99. When they announced the promotion, i went online and signed up for and extra $10 for 50/25 (actually 60/30). my bill is $64.99.

I keep thinking they will eventually (soon) upgrade all tiers to remain in front of the cable co's.

(Not necessarily upgrading existing customers though)

Taking a bit longer than expected actually - considering the speeds Comcast and to a lesser extent TWC are offering.
