Computer TV Tuner Card

Hi all,

I recently purchased and installed a TV Tuner card, and have my W.O.W. Cable (Detroit) hooked up to it. Is there a place I can go to get some type of walkthrough on how to get all the cable channels that I normally get on my cable box onto Windows Media Center? Or is this even possible?

I currently have HDTV, Digital Cable and HBO on my WOW Account, but I'm not getting all the channels through Media Center.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

What TV tuner card did you get?

PM me.

It depends on what PC card you have. If it's just a QAM based card, that will only show unencrypted digital channels. You would need one that has a cable card slot (like a credit card) to accept a cable card from WOW to un-encrypt the channels.

I wound up getting the Hauppauge TV Tuner card...so I guess there isn't a cable card slot on it. Ah well, no worries. I can just hook up a cable box to it. Some of those cable card TV Tuner cards cost around $200, which was a little out of my price range.

Thank you guys much.

You will not get all channels with that.

Depending on the card you may only get SD channels.

If you get HD the mapping of channel numbers to the number on the guide will not match.

Which tuner did you get and how much did you spend?

Hauppauge has a 2-tuner cable card usb box for $116.99 on Amazon right now, while SiliconDust has a 3-tuner cable card network box for $149.99 on Amazon.

I use the SiliconDust 2-tuner network box and a Hauppauge 850 usb stick for ota recording (using a htpc and two Xbox 360's) and a Tivo Premiere plus Tivo Series2 for cable recording. They all work remarkably well and I'm getting around 300 hours of total storage for three tv's.

HE did not get a cable card box. He got an actual TV Tuner on a card.

Thank you guys so much. Unfortunately, I did get just an actual TV Tuner. Ah well, I'm not at a complete loss. I can still use my cable box on it until I can get that cable card one from SiliconDust. Thank you so much for the feedback on this.

Note to self: Self, please make sure you consult these forums before buying anything like that again.

I know that. I even quoted his comment on it. I was just asking which tuner he got and pointing out that there are cable card devices that are reasonably priced.
