My experience with CyberPower UPS - avoid!

Hi,

I would like to warn you guys. I bought a Cyberpower Bricks UPS 850VA a few weeks ago, it blew up straight away. I have emailed their support / sales team at least 10 times, gave them a call - nothing! No support at all and quality as I can see horrible as well as I connected a few devices, UPS reported 30% load and died when I tested it. When I started to post it all over the Internet, support team in Germany (I am based in London) came back to me as someone emailed them. To summarize: 'our ups is great, you broke it, go to hell'.

Just want to warn you - go for a well known APC device.

Please define and clarify "blew up".

BRICs? Is that an EU-only model? (Don't seem to find it listed for North America.)

I've got half a dozen CyberPower units--been using them for a few years now w/o a problem through more than 1 multi-hour power outage (so I've never needed to contact support--don't know what they're like). Sorry about your experience, but it doesn't seem to be typical for NA models or the brand either.

And my actual point, though, and why I'm posting at all: CyberPower has been a "well known" brand (around here) for more than a decade (even before APC was bought by that French company and started having "quality issues").

I always have bought APC and never had any issues. I have some units bought 9-10 years ago and all I have had to do was replace the batteries every few years. I have heard of issues with cyber power before.

I have been using CyberPower UPS system since they were available in 1997 and at last count I think I have purchased 15 units of various sizes.

Only had one issue and when I called CyberPower Technical Support they sent me a new unit with instructions to send the old unit back to them in the box that the new one came in. They also included all the necessary shipping papers so I had absolutely no out of pocket cost.

In my book they are an excellent source of UPS units when properly sized and used as instructed.

I've had one for a few years now without any issues.

In any event, scour their website and documentation for any email addresses that you can find. Then compose a polite email summarizing the problem and include all of the model specifics including the purchase date. Send it to ALL of the email addresses. This will ensure it doesn't get overlooked.

I've had to do this twice (with different companies), and both times I received a prompt reply and the issue was resolved.

Good luck.
