[motherboard] Windows 8 says I have 8 CPUsWindows 8 Device Manager shows that my motherboard has 8 AMD FX-8120 processors on it. That's impossible because my motherboard doesn't have 8 AM3+ sockets on it. It only has 1 single AM3+ socket on it. If I delete the drivers for my CPU and then reinstall them will that correct the problem and get the Windows 8 Device Manger to show that I have only 1 processor instead of 8 processors??? |

This is normal. Each core of your cpu shows up as a separate processor in windows. |

It is hyper-threaded with four cores I would bet. » www.newegg.com/Product/P ··· 19103961 |

As said, it is normal for each of the cores to be listed as a processor. You have an 8 core processor. |

That might be because an AMD FX-8120 is an 8 core processor. Just to give ya something to think about. |

No it's a 4 core with a extremely efficient version of Hyper-Threading .
Far from a true 8 core chip.
Intel Still has the largest number of physical x86 cores on a single die intel xeon phi up to 61 cores, 244 threads, x86 cores on one chip clocked at 1GHz
it does not have any instruction set such as SSE SSE2 etc... and is a Intel Pentium 1 class processor so it's useless for most people |

And yet again you are incorrect: AMD FX-8120 Zambezi 3.1GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8120FRGUBOX » www.newegg.com/Product/P ··· 19103961 |

How is he wrong? 61 is far greater than 8. oh and as to CPU's that people might actually use, intel has a 12 core CPU, and for awhile has had a 10 core. (eat that AMD) both intel CPU's I mention are hyper threaded. |

I don't really want to get into the debate about whether they should be called an 8 core chip(there are 8 integer cores in 4 modules). People can research this if they are interested but it doesn't alter the answer to the poster's question.
The poster wanted to know why his setup is showing 8 processors. There is nothing abnormal about what the poster is seeing. |

#facepalm said by Intel :A family of coprocessors for diverse needs
Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors provide up to 61 cores, 244 threads, and 1.2 teraFLOPS of performance, and they come in a variety of configurations to address diverse hardware, software, workload, performance, and efficiency requirements. |

(eat that AMD) both intel CPU's I mention are hyper threaded. The part I had a problem with was the c 'cores' and AMDs version of hyperthreading as noted that I only posted about the CPU, not who had the most cores. I have researched more and found that it is 4 physical 'cores' with I believe hypertransport (AMDs version of Intels hyperthreading). |
