Google Talk/Hangout Blocked

Hi All, I just got fios 3 days ago. I notice I can not use Google Talk! I can rec, but not tx. A message comes up saying "voice traffic is blocked by network" .

It works just fine with Cablevision.

Whats the story!!!

Can I do anything about it?

Thanks,
John

OK.

Well, the puzzling thing is that there must be lots of folks who are using GoogleTalk on Verizon FiOS, yet there are no other signs of this issue.

I [do] believe you, but this must be something unique to your system.

What else changed when you switched from Cablevision to FiOS?

Obviously the modem is different, did you also change routers?

On what type of computer are you using the GoogleTalk service?

Don't you have to use the proprietary Actiontec (rev. A-D) router provided by your ISP?

don't and stop are the ONLY two 4-letter words considered offensive to men, but not when used together.

Nah. I have Fios and use WRT54G's at both locations.

Update:
I turned the firewall off in the router and it worked just fine.
But here is the weird thing!
I turned the firewall back on..., and it now works also!

Really..., I am not crazy! Ok maybe a little.

Maybe google just had a issue?
One of those things we will never know I guess.

Thanks to all
John

I just got this message today, for the first time (Talkatone on my iPad Mini, wifi to Verizon Fios). Very disturbing to think Verizon might be starting to screw with VOIP users; I really hope there's another explanation here. (iOS 7?)

(In my case it was an incoming wrong number call, as I eventually found out from the voicemail. But still.)

Well I spoke to soon. It now seems too be intermittent. Something must be going on with one of the companies.

Interesting

FiOS just became available at my address. I had considered switching just to try them out, but cable is still cheaper for the same services so I didn't.

It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they're blocking traffic. AT&T did it with FaceTime for a while after all.
