angelom join:2000-02-04 Centereach, NY | Need a new router Any suggestions ? I currently have Optimum Online Ultra 101. Since the speed upgrades I have seen great download speeds. My upload speeds were 8 to 15Mbps. Service tech came out and found a few issues. Modem was changed along with some lines and splitters and connectors. A signal booster that was previously supplied by Cablevision for one of the TVs was removed. After all this was done signals were where they should be and speed was on the money. 120 Mbps down and 35 up. When the router is introduced upload speed drops to 18 to 24 Mbps. It is a 4 year old D Link DIR-655 V1 and I would like to get a new router. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a house full of computers, Blue Ray Player and TVs hooked up to system. We do a lot of Netflix and Hulu streaming along with games and internet. Thanks in advance. |

That was something I was looking at. I see the AC-68U is available for preorder. I would like to read up on that. Might wait for the 66U to come down in price after the 68 releases. |

I would wait to buy any high end router at this time. A lot of AC routers are releasing at the moment. Some of the AC1900 are releasing too(Linksys EA6900, Netgear R7000(Nighthawk), and the RT-AC68U. |

i preordered the AC68U yesterday.
my current E3000 cant handle all that the Ultra 101 provides so I've been waiting for this 68U to be released for a few weeks now. i dont see a reason to go 66U at this point as the price difference is minimal. |

The RT-AC66U is an excellent router, best I've ever owned. It can handle any speeds you can throw at it and has great range. Anything from Asus will serve you well. |

"ASUS has proven that the hardware works, just not always to its full potential. The performance of the RT-AC66U on 802.11n is good, but not quite on the level of the RT-N66U." |

[Corrected] Please note that some people reported interference when USB 3 drive was plugged in USB 3 port. I can't recall router model but it was Asus (I thought it was AC-66U but as it turned out ti only has USB 2 ports).
Found it - it was RT-N65U: »www.amazon.com/review/R1XPDXZUEO···ZUEOTZV5 |

I guess I was wrong and it was some other router model but I am 100% sure people reported interference when USB 3 flash drive was plugged in USB 3 port.

Arris modems have problems with D-Link routers. »forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=50682.0
You can use a Linksys RVS4000 if you can find one. I am getting 100/35 with mine. -- VISTA - The best thing to happen to Apple! |

I haven't seen any issues using my DLink DIR-655 with my Arris TM802 modem. Currently it's not hooked up because I have a dual-band router hooked up, but I haven't had issues during my extended tests or the year and a half that I used it as my primary router with this modem. |

I'm guessing that the OPs upload performance complaint is with 2.4 GHz WiFi and not Ethernet performance. With the popularity of mobile devices these days, some people see a router as only a WLAN device since no one in their right mind uses wired anymore (sarc). |

thought I would provide some valuable input for a router then I see everyone has these $100-$200 routers and I'm over here like, "Got my Netgear N600......." But it has a USB port!
Now that optimum has upped the speeds I think I'm going to get a new router. I certainly don't need a $100-$200 router but I think maybe the N900 at least.
And I even buy refurbed ones off Woot! I paid $30 for that N600! |

Ameridian,
I had this problem with a CableVision Tech. I explained to him I had a Router and he wanted me to connect to it with my notebook wirelessly. When I explained that it is a WIRED ROUTER, he said to me "Oh It's a Switch ?". I had to explain to him that LONG, LONG, AGO....... -- VISTA - The best thing to happen to Apple! |
