New Power Install (45mb/s), huge FEC errors & slow internet

Hey everyone. I got Power (45mb) installed on Thursday (3 days ago) and speedtest.net was showing 10.5mb/s on my wifi connection. I pulled up the diagnostic tab and the attachment is what I found. In 4 days, FEC errors on line 1 of over 880,000. What does that mean?? What can I do about it? Is that bad?

Thanks so much for all of your help.

Steve

Please, never rely on a speedtest done via wifi. There are so many variables that are outside of any ISP's reach.

What we really need to see is when these errors happened. Check throughout the day and see if they're incrementing. If you do further speedtests ensure you're hardwired.

Optimally, you want less than 10k FECs on a given line per day. However, if you have more FECs than that, as long as your service isn't being impacted, don't worry about it.

CRCs are a problem, you should see 0 CRCs if your line is working correctly. If you are generating any CRCs you have an issue on your line that needs to be looked into.

Looks like to me his upstream is way hosed for some reason, downstream looks good, but there is defiantly something not right that is severely affecting the upstream.

I would, if you are still having problems, contact the AT&T on-site techs, here:

wow 70000 kbps max rate each line... how far are you from the VRAD? You must be on a K Card. [I get 60,000 kbps on the F Card with a 3800.. I am only 400 ft from the VRAD] -- they won't do Power tier for me because apparently I am too close to the VRAD for bonding as it would cause echo issues.

Im under 1400 ft im guessing im on a k card my line 1 fluctuates a lot but they had to some work on my line 2 to get it up in the sevens ..

You have a cross-box in between you and VRAD?
What's distance your NID to nearest neighboring NID?

For sake of argument, say there are two pairs in same bundle from VRAD to xbox, that separate for last (say) 200ft to you and neighbor, each running 32/5 profile just fine.

They're saying if such two working 32/5 profile lines, were instead in a bundle from xbox to same/single NID for their final 200ft, this makes the difference in echo enough that the two could not then sustain 27/3 each?

If were in fact so, pairs of neighbors could exchange 2nd lines (with new line segments added to extend them towards opposite NID in the pair, needing burial), so you have 2 lines (one taking dogleg towards neighbor) that are now not in same bundle for last 200ft.

Might as well just bury a new line bundle to the xbox, this one modern with the pairs properly shielded from each other.

They must have already considered such scenarios since earliest days of IRAD/VRAD planning.

I'm in an MDU so there is no NID involved -- it goes from my place to a PED next to the building and then from the PED it goes to the XBOX next to the VRAD (about 400 ft away)

I am just going on what I have been told by random people here; echo is one of the things someone told me in this forum as could be a possible reason for them not releasing power to me so close to the VRAD -- official word from AT&T it's just not an option for me right now.

At this point since the system says I can't order it.. I am just learning to accept it for now.

Did you post stats from your 3800 anywhere? UVRealtime (does it confirm 400ft?), or just noise margin, attenuation?

Yep (included here also) AT&T Techs tell me "It's just not an option right now for you at this point"

Right now they still don't support pair bonding in mdu's. I have seen a few accidentally slip through since the adresses were all their own number per apartment and not shared with a separating character.

Wow. Can MDU's get a 2nd POTS line?

That explains why I am black listed for Power even though I am able to technically support it.

I know there are multiple pairs too because when I had POTS they ran pots on a different pair than the VDSL signal.

Here's an updated screen shot from earlier this morning, been 5 or so days. I'm going to post on the AT&T direct forum as suggested - the internet is just unstable. For whatever reason, downloads get interrupted and things just aren't right. I'm not sure how else to describe it because I'm not really an expert. Thanks so much everyone for your replies.

Yep, you've got major trouble on line 1. They need to roll a truck to get it fixed.

Great, thanks for the reply. Hope I don't have to spend an hour (or more) on the phone with them to make that happen. Anyone got a secret number to call?

Went ahead and called tech support last night. Truck coming Saturday morning. Hopefully they know how to fix it.

I posted on the Direct forum but haven't received a response yet. Will follow the response once received.

Thanks again for all of your help. Will report back.

I looked at it, line 2 has some problems with it, I did a line bounce for the guy. If that doesn't help I would keep your appointment for saturday.
