 | [DVR] Extra storage on DVR - Approved list Is there an approved list on Verizon's site of external hard drives that will work with the new DVR/extra storage capacity function? I'm getting there with all the HD footage that's now available. Thx! -- People who don't get good service on average tell 10 others while people who do get good service on average tell 1. |

Yes. See »www.verizon.com/Support/Resident···9841.htm. I found this through a Bing Internet search for "approved list fios hard drives." It was the first result. |

Re: [DVR] Extra storage on DVR - Approved list Along the same note, does anyone know if a Hitachi HDS721010CLA332 1TB drive (Deskstar series) in a Rosewill RX-358 V2 enclosure will work as a DVR expander. The Rosewill enclosure has a firmware update that disables any power saving commands generated by the enclosure itself. The enclosure also has an 80mm fan in it which should provide decent cooling.
So far as I know, the Hitachi drive has to be commanded into a power-down or sleep mode by the host (enclosure). -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

PJL, thanks but not interested in Verizon's info. That's the crux of my issue.
Anyone have any others that they are using successfully? Verizon, in their infinite wisdom, list a paltry 3 models...all from one manufacturer and not available on newegg...one of the biggest online purveyors of PC equipment.
Anyone using a 500GB or 1TB drive that they have had success with? -- People who don't get good service on average tell 10 others while people who do get good service on average tell 1. |

I have been using a WD 500 GB DVR Expander with no problems. However, I recommend getting a different SATA cable than the one that comes with it. I think that the 500 GB may be discontinued. I bought it directly from WD at a grood price ($70.00). |

You asked for "an approved list on Verizon's site" or did I misread your initial question? |

There are many disks/cases that have been successfully used. Check the archives. There have also been disks that have not been successful. You can use disks up to 2TB. |

Oh, I guess I misunderstood your "not interested in Verizon's info" as it didn't seem like a clarification. Hope you get the information you need. |
|
 | No you didn't. My bad. Once I read their short list I realized I needed something different. |

Rattler join:2001-04-13 Havertown, PA | I am ordering the Rosewill eSATA enclosure I mentioned (and will apply the fix to shut-down the energy saver function - available from Roeswill) and will put the expander together using the Hitachi drive I mentioned. We'll see how it works as a DVR expander. If it doesn't, I'll have another 1TB external drive for the PC...
The reason for the Rosewill enclosure is that I think the Antec MX-1 is NLA. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

I tried a few hard drives and had to settle on the 1TB Verizon approved WD My Book Expander. Every drive I tried (except the Vz approved) had some stuttering issues in regards to the video from the moca connected STB.
So my thoughts and opinions may have changed from these old posts.

Nascar, where did you purchase it? I can't seem to find these models on newegg which is a big suppplier of PC parts. -- People who don't get good service on average tell 10 others while people who do get good service on average tell 1. |

Here's one on Newegg (WDBABT0010HBK-NESN):

 | Thx! If the cable is anything like my search ability, it DOES apparently suck! |

The official list is very short. However, I've never seen an esata drive or enclosure that didn't work, as long as it presents as normal drive and not something funky. I know a guy with a 6tb raid box hooked up that's working fine. I really don't know why they bothered with an official list. |
