[Business] Internet "Hot Spots"?

Does Fios ever plan to have internet hot spots!! All I ever pick up are Xfinity hot spots.

They then would be competing against themselves with Verizon Wireless. They want you to eat those data usage

Since FiOS is a passive, non-powered network it is extremely difficult for VZ to build wireless hotspots.

Yes, but not like Xfinity. WiFi access is provided through other services (like Boingo) so you wouldn't necessarily know the WiFi was a Verizon service. You can find information on MyVerizon about this. Click on the Manage My Services link, then go to My Internet, then click on Verizon WiFi. It's PC centric, pre-Windows 8. But...

For more information for non-Windows users: see »wyang0.blogspot.com/2012/01/veri···nux.html. I successfully used this process for my Android tablet after first doing the PC think on a pre-Windows 8 installation (Windows XP running on a virtual machine within my Windows 8).

In say this in MyVerizon about Verizon Wi-Fi: "Register now and enjoy free Verizon Wi-Fi with your laptop, tablet, or mobile device." How odd.

I have been using them for years, but you have to have a Verizon access app to find them. It is sort of a VPN walled garden.

I just used the service on my Android tablet without using any app by following the steps in the link. You can get a list at »my.verizon.com/central/portlets/···arch.jsp.

YW. The important thing is to select the business partner option when signing in to the Boingo hot spot. It's in the link instructions.

Has anyone been able to signup without using the verizon windows app?

Verizon once had lots of hot spots, but these days they seemed to have dropped most of them (perhaps selling those they had to Boingo?) and are offer access to many(all?) Boingo hot spots.

Can you elaborate on that? ONT (or whatever it is called) box in my apartment certainly needs to be powered.

Cable TV companies distribute their signal to their customers via a powered co-axial network. There is electrical power at every node on the utility poles. They can tap that power any place that they desire to install a WAP. The FiOS network is completely passive (non powered) from the place where the signal leaves the central office until it arrives at the customer location.

They used to on their DSL network. They'd have plenty of their hotzones/spots all over the place.

they're not located on the nodes though. They're located at the taps.

If you find a Boingo hotspot, login as a Verizon Business user and use your MyVerizon login and it will work.
