souss join:2010-12-15 Mississauga, ON | iPhone devices causing high ping on connection two iOS devices in my household cause insanely high ping when they first connect to WiFi.
For example, I'll be at home with normal ping (wired connection on desktop), and the person(s) with the iPhones would come home and their phone would connect to home WiFi. all of a sudden, pings spike like crazy and usually lasts 5-15 mins before it settles down.
i'm certain it's their devices because if I block their MAC addresses from connecting to WiFi, pings will IMMEDIATELY drop down to normal levels.
this has been happening to me for a while now. any ideas what could be causing it? i tried the apple forums but to no avail.
i'm using an RT-N66U. |

 | They are probably uploading backup or stuff to the "cloud". |

anyway I could limit this from the router options? |

 | Depends on what router you have, it would need QOS (Quality of Service) settings. |

This probably is related to the new iOS7 battery drain that has been noticed. Apparently iOS7 constantly queries the for location services and auto-app update. I noticed the link light on my modem going bananas this morning, logged into my router and the only things connected where the pc and the wife's iPhone, even though there where no apps running on the iPhone as soon as I turned its wifi off the link light settled right down.
Just a thought...
here is an article that instructs on how to turn these things off..

Simple solution; ban all iCrap. I would never let any of that junk touch any of my networks. |
