Re: Slow Tonight - Sunday Mississauga This is happening on SUNDAY NIGHT ONLY! Not all DAY LONG SUNDAY!
There is no excuse for this, really, and this can get worst once more people sign up.
I would like to hear what rocca has to say on this, as well.
As, this was happening for few Sunday's now, when can we expect this to be gone? (New upgrades perhaps?) |

This is new to start too so they can change and tweak stuff as they go. I don't see the point to damn them for what may happen that is silly. |

 | Who is mad? Me? No !
Maybe i just "sound' like that ! |

said by jmck:on Astra? Astra seems to always get really slow on Sundays regardless of the ISP. when it gets slow on Sundays I've tested it with 2 other ISPs and my collocated servers on HE.net in NYC and OHV and still seeing issues. never used astra, I'm on usenetserver have been for 5+ years |

you'll never get a connection from Start with the current Rogers rates that is unlimited and won't be lowered at peak time, that was the entire point of this plan. With Cogeco's even higher rates it's impossible.
i think the real issue is you got used to it actually not slowing down every night until the last 2-3 Sundays which is the heaviest night. the minimum rate at peak also can't be set, the pipe is only so big and it will be whatever is left from the non-unlimited users + all the other unlimited users.
knowing that, there's a few things that can happen:
-stop using the unlimited option and fit your usage within the cap and bulk download after 2am. -move to another ISP that has "true" unlimited, there are some. -work around the current Sunday issue and don't download 10GB that day.
i'm curious what your monthly usage for the current month? |

| i'm 99% sure if you're still getting slow speeds at 5am then it's not related at all to the unlimited plan's de-prioritization. is this to the Start speedtest.net server too? |
|
 | im not unlimted
so that shouldn't effect me |

 1 edit |
150/10 limited plan
under 3mbs a usenet (on both my servers)
PROBLEM
not my end
update .... my speeds are fine now ....appears to be slow because the article is so old
but they were slow last night around 1030-11 on eveything |

Who is talking about unlimited here?
I am on LIMITED 150\10 tier here, and i was affected to, so, this is not ONLY affecting Unlimited users, but, LIMITED as well. |

said by ilLoveStart :There is no excuse for this, really, I'm not sure really how to answer this any more clearly. I've gone over the burstable nature of cable, that's how it works - it's really really really fast for cheap, but speeds fluctuate at peak based on all sorts of conditions and isn't a committed/guaranteed rate at all times - that's the reality of the product. Your speed test was 98Mbps, mine was 148Mbps - I suspect your node was a little busier, ie it's not just our customers that are busy on Sunday night. ;)
said by ilLoveStart :and this can get worst once more people sign up. We do of course regularly upgrade our capacity. It's about every 2 weeks on average although we did it 3 times in September since it's a higher growth month.
Anyway, this thread was started because of a capacity issue somewhere outside of our network, and then sort of escalated because of someone else that was impacted by the unlimited usage policy and has now taken some sort of weird turn about how this must be a sign of doom. I know you 'love' Start and that's great, but if so then you'll have to have some faith that managing networks since 1995 has made us pretty decent at it. The fact is that Sunday's nights are busy everywhere. |

1 edit | If i did not have a faith in you guys, i wouldn't be spending $100s monthly, and s well as my family and friends who i referred.
