He's looking in the $400-500 range for a 41 inch so it's straight up bang for your buck low end. The Panasonic low end plasmas were a great deal a few years ago I'm not sure what is the best bang any more. |

It's become such a small number that it doesn't matter. The first generation plasmas doubled for heaters as did Tube TV's, at this point just about any TV bought now will use very little energy. I got rid of a 30 inch tube tv in bedroom that was 20 years old and replaced in with a 31 inch LCD and I swear my electric bill actually dropped from the switch. Switching a plasma to a LCD will show no real life difference. |

I have a 50 inch Panny plasma thats 5 years old in our bedroom, Downstairs there is a 52 inch Sharp LCD thats 7 years old. Both have great picture qualities. The LCD has motion artifacts when viewing sports, the Plasma does not. When I went to look at the big box retailers for tvs, I felt that the LCD's were in torch mode, and that made them look far brighter in the store environment. I spend a lot of time with my plasma on while sitting next to it in front of my computer. I do not have a loss of picture quality by viewing at an angle, like I did with my old LCD, that I replaced with the Plasma. I myself prefer the Plasma over the LCD. Good LUCK! |

Yes they have settings to make them brighter. Your problem is that you are looking at a LED right next to a Plasma display in a showroom and no a Plasma just isn't as bright. I own two plasma's because I think the LCD displays are harsh, suffer from fast action blur and don't have good blacks.
If you like a picture that's so bright it's burning your retinas then a LCD is for you. |

Array lit LED sets are better than the cheaper edge lit ones and can approach the contrast/black levels that Plasma has. -- 01011001 |

you would be better off purchasing an LCD instead of a plasma at the price point you indicated of $400-$500. -- Suffolk County NY Police Feed - »www.scpdny.com PS3 Gaming Feed - »www.livestream.com/elitedata |

You sound like price is most important.
That sums it up about perfectly. Some LCD sets do fast motion or filter artifacts better than others. That's about the most important thing to look for when comparing LCD sets if you go that route. Viewing angles can be narrower on the cheaper sets too. Another thing to look for when comparing. |

Plasma does not pixilate during fast motion like LCD does. I think the picture looks sharper and colors are deeper on a plasma compared to LCD -- Bellingham Scanner Kicks Ass! »bhamscanner.kicks-ass.org/ |

First off, "LED" televisions are still LCD TVs. It's just that the backlighting technology has changed from CCFLs to LEDs.
Since LCD technology works by shining a backlight through the LCD panel, which either blocks or allows light to pass, the contrast ratio that can be achieved is not perfect since even in the "dark" state, the LCD panel still allows a little bit of light to bleed through.
Plasma technology on the other hand every pixels emits its own light. When a particular pixel is off, it's not emitting any light. Thus, better contrast ratios can be achieved.
Plasmas are good for very dark rooms but in a room with light, LCD will fare better. Also, plasma consumes considerably more energy. |

cchheettLamb Of GodPremium join:2001-04-02 Eagle Creek, OR | I am going to buying a television next week. Does anyone have a preference for what type is better. I was looking at televisions today and i really like the led televisions, but I noticed when i was checking out that the plasmas were dark compared to the led. I noticed that that the lights in the store made the plasma glare television. Should I just buy a led just because it looks better to my eyes. Or will the plasma work better when its dark in the the room. To me the led's looked better to my eyes. I watch a lot of horrror movies and i hate watching dark movies, but i have heard the plasmas will be better for dark movies. I just don't know want kind i should get. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hoping to spend 4 to 5 hundred for a 42" -- A.B.Mult.Horror
