[Windows] How do I prestage DFS files

I want to verify that I'm doing this correctly before I actually do it. I have about 1TB of data in various DFS shares at one site. A second site is DFS-R connected. Both sites are connected via VPN at the gateway.

There is no way I'm going to attempt to initial replicate this volume of data over the WAN/VPN. In order to prestage the data, I need to use the Windows backup utility to backup all the data in the primary folders, restore the data in the same folders as the primary DFS structure, then enable the DFS link?

If I remember correctly, this will preserve the file hashes and metadata and only the metadata will transfer once the server is enabled in DFS to verify file integrity.

Is this correct?

You can use Robocopy or Windows Backup.

That damn robocop is fast as hell, that'd be my preference (IMO)
