Former Cop blows whistle on brutality, corruption

It's nice to see a cop and not "just another civilian" have the courage to come forward with this

quote:
A former cop with an exemplary record is going public about what he calls corruption in Edmonton police ranks, after he tried internally to expose what he believes is organized brutality, but got no results.

"I stood up for what's right, and I just got run out of the police service,” said Derek Huff, 37. “I still can’t even really believe it.”

Huff is a 10-year-veteran who resigned in February, three years after he said he and his partner watched — stunned — as three plainclothes officers viciously beat a handcuffed man while he was down.

“They basically had their knees on his back and were just punching and kicking him just as hard as they could …six fists just pummelling this guy … I could hear him screaming,” said Huff.

He reported what he saw — and his allegations are now being investigated — but he said until recently the alleged assault was kept quiet.

I feel bad for Mr. Huff. Now that it's public, he will really need to watch his back from other cops.

Let's just say that isn't too far from the truth sadly and it's all I could think to myself as I read that article. On the flip side, if he or family were suddenly harassed, it would only prove what he's saying true, so they may leave him alone as that is in their best interest.

Unfortunately some bad apples make prove that theory wrong though. I hope him coming forward from inside creates a 'movement' among the other great cops inside of many cities.

I spoke to a guy who had the exact same thing happen to him by two Durham Regional police drug squad officers recently.

I looked up their names and they have been on the sunshine list for years. Life is good for them I guess. Pull in 110k a year to go around and beat people with impunity.

Must be friends of dickhead cop in this video.

Wow whos the criminals and who are the cops in that clip? It's getting harder and harder to tell the difference.

I think they all watched one too many Miami Vice episodes growing up or something. At least two other cops there and not one does jack-shit while the one clown does his Steven Segal impersonation. The cops a coward talk like that to him off duty without a badge and gun without two of your bum chums to back you up.

get a load of this....if 4 cops sit on a man while he is down on the ground while cuffing him, that man will be wriggling like a worm because he can't breathe.....it's only natural when one can't breathe to be panicking and moving trying to catch a breath....how does that help them by applying even more force?......the guy can die easily with that weight on him restricting his breathing.

Sign expresses anger over Edmonton whistle-blower cop's resignation

Across the street from police headquarters on Thursday appeared a large, colourful sign directed to the chief, Rod Knecht.

In the US, the federal Department of Justice will step in when a police department gets too far out of line (as happened in Seattle a few years ago).

I wish this would be done in Canada too.
