I'm not sure if I understand the difference, Gmail is web mail on a PC.
On a Droid it's an app - which I have no plans in upgrading if it will be ad-laced |

The new ad-laced version should be sitting on your phone. »play.google.com/store/apps/detai···gm&hl=en I am not installing this version or any further unless there's some mitigating factor that requires me to do so. ~ YMMV ~ |

I use the k9 mail client. Pretty much just as good and some tasker integration. |

This is where a rooted phone with Adaway App come in handy. It does not make a difference what app uses Ads... |

Not sure since I've declined the app update until I'm sure what's under the hood. From what I read - I highly doubt I will. Unless others provide screenshots from non-rooted phones without ad-away or similar ad blocking apps.

Some reviews on the Play store are saying they are seeing ads with this update.
Also, quite a few are complaining that the update sent their phones into an endless boot loop!
I think I'll pass on this update. I only use Gmail for junk email, so I don't really care about updating it. The last update added some label junk feature which is annoying enough. -- The Alien in the White House

Gmail already has a million ads running alongside. Add to that the tonnes of spammy mails and promotions. Where is this leading to? |

| If this annoys me enough, it's leading to where it came from - using one of the services for which I already pay, and directing my alias there instead. Or, paying google some nominal fee to skip the ads. That's a fair trade in my book. I do like many features of gmail but everybody's got their tipping point. -- USNG: 16TDN2870 Find your USNG coordinates: USNGWeb |

Stop using the GMail App, I have never used it, just the generic mail app. --

adaway doesn't block these ads. only the ability to click them (host file takes you to 404) -- I found the key to success but somebody changed the lock. |

 | So you say... I have not seen a single ad yet on the gmail. So I guess either it works or my cell's latest gmail is extra special... |

Only thing I find superior about GMail is its annoyingness, and that it won't go away without going to a custom ROM. Though at lest rooted you can reliably deactivate it. --
