[Networking] Can I self-install?

We have Fios right now and we're moving to another address which also current has Fios service installed. I called up today to get it transferred over and they said I need a tech visit to set it up while the online order form shows self-install as an option. Their first appointment window is over a week away, so I'm just trying to speed things up a bit.

Shouldn't I just be able to connect up my equipment and have them activate the service? Any advice on how to take care of this more quickly would be appreciated! Thanks!

I think you can do a self-install in that case. Not sure why you wouldn't be able to.

yea, if you already have the router and stbs from the old place you can just bring them over and hook them up to the ont in new house. just call fsc and they can activate over the phone.

Depends. Although the house might be wired for it, it could be that there was a different service provider hooked up for more than 90 days and that's why they aren't giving you the self install option over the phone. More than likely, all of the wiring has to be switched back to the FiOS equipment. If you think that's something you can handle on your own, by that I mean removing an old cable or satellite splitter connection and replacing it with one that they should send you, it's not all that difficult.

Thanks for all your replies.

The current resident confirmed that they use Fios right now so hopefully it should be fine. We're moving our stuff in tomorrow so I'll connect it up and give them a call. Thanks everyone again!

Has the previous resident disconnected all of their services yet? If not self install will not be an option.

Just make sure the previous owner returns ALL of their equipment, and pays their final bill.

Them leaving things behind, thinking they're doing you a favor, will bite you in the end.

You should be able to since that residence previously had fios service. They even give you a gift certificate for self-installing, at least they did for me.

I just did this, read my thread titled: "how to move to a new house".

I called ahead of time and scheduled a date for my old service to be terminated and new service to begin. Stress to them that you do not need a technician to come to your house. Take your equipment and connect it, then call Verizon and tell them to activate the equipment.

Thanks for all your responses. I figured I'd follow up on my progress with Verizon.

So I called and they confirmed that a technician does not have to come to the home, but they're now saying that it will take until Monday to activate the service on their end. Does this seem legit? Has anyone else ever heard anything like this?

Again, I appreciate your responses. I'm just wondering if I should keep pushing or just accept that I'll have no tv or Internet over the weekend. Thanks!

So, you already put in for activation, but they're telling you it'll take until Monday before you see your service turned on? That sounds ridiculous. There's no reason why your service can't be activated almost immediately. My guess - Verizon is buffering what they're telling you. Telling you that it'll take a couple days before you see your service turn on, when it'll actually happen alot faster than that. They do that with regularity with that type of stuff (way back when I signed up for the movie pack, and was told over the phone that it would take some 24 hours for it to be on, but when I checked, as soon as I got off the phone, my service was active). I would go ahead and check to see if you have service.

Re: [Networking] Can I self-install?

They told me that they could de-activate my service the next day but couldn't activate new service for a week. I told them that this was not acceptable and they said they would "call another department" and I got the service activated the same day that the new service was de-activated.

What kind of installs can one self install? On the order page it says I can self install but when I get to final page it disappears and asked me what time for a tech visit. The house has an ont and bbu.
