Riazg join:2005-01-01 Scarborough, ON | Cable Cut My neighbor had their drive way repaved and unfortunately the cable to our house was cut when they dug up the drive way. I have internet with Teksavvy but it's using Rogers cable. So, Teksavvy opened a ticket to have the cable replaced and it's been over 24 hours and Rogers has not even contacted us as to when they will come to repair.
If it was a Rogers customer I am sure they'll do a truck roll next day.

Don't be too sure about that! |

Don't be too sure about that! Not exactly, they will come the next day but all they'll do is patch it up or run a temp line then they'll schedule a truck roll to do the real repair in 3-6 months. Still better than TPIA support where you'll get someone out in maybe a week..
Keeping in mind, cable service is not classified as a critical service except if you have voice service on that line so in either case it's still relatively low priority on the list. |

Call Rogers and tell them you want TV, when they connect your cable, you can back out of TV program. Tell them you changed your mind. |

Can you please pm me your details and I will make sure the ticket is escalated? |

Riazg join:2005-01-01 Scarborough, ON | mlerner got it spot on! I now have a "repair" date of Oct 6(Sunday?!?). Exactly 1 week after I called it in. I bet it'll be a temp line, not an official fix. My parents live at the address, my mom is on Dialysis and they are using VOIP. I explained all that to the rep and this is "priority" I get. I have a lot of very worried relatives right now.. -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »»TekSavvy |

koreybReplace the CRTC NOW join:2005-01-08 East York, ON | If you have VoIP for someone that is in need of medical attention, I hope you have a cell phone as a backup. VoIP can be a great replacement for home phone, but you need a cell backup for emergencies. |

Riazg join:2005-01-01 Scarborough, ON | Yes, she has a cell phone it's pay as you go. It for situations like this, but most (except for immediate family) people don't know the number so they get worried when they always get voice mail when they call the home phone. I am not going to forward the home phone to it. -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »»TekSavvy |

Problem is I believe VoIP over the internet is not classified as essential or emergency service under the telecommunications act but I may be wrong as there were some changes. But if so, you'd need phone service from Rogers to bump up the priority.. |

So we were fortunate enough for a Rogers tech to show up today instead of this Sunday. He was able to patch the line and everything was working. Now Beaver Paving is back and they've cut the cable once again!! This is crazy! Very frustrated! We even told them to be careful with underground cables. -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »»TekSavvy |

If you see them again, tell them to watch out for the cables or Rogers will bill them for repair. |

Aren't there any regulations on how deep that the cable line is to be buried on the public easements? Like maybe a standard 18 inches deep..... A driveway dig out of crap soil and refill with road mulch would be maybe a foot of fill. Unless the line is registered for depth and location... 'Dial before you dig' would be useless.
I've read many a post on how in the U.S. the Cableco just heels the line 2 inches under the lawn and close enough. Then the line magically rises over a couple of years and gets eaten by the vicious Mowerasorous. -- Knowledge and curiosity are not crimes and those who are curious should not be treated like criminals.. »www.eff.org/https-everywhere

Didn't happen to notice if the paving boss-man had a sheet of Rogers stationery in his hand with a crude map and a big arrow pointing to an 'X' and the words "Dig Here" did ya? |

The boss man was MIA.. just two workers doing their damage. We did warn them before starting their work today and within minutes the damage was done.
On a good note, I was fortunate enough to find a Rogers tech in the area and he was kind enough to do the repair. -- Check out the TekSavvy Forums: »»TekSavvy |

It's Friday. What else did you expect? |
