slack join:2013-10-01 Canada | [Internet] Site says I can get bell fibe 25/10, but- -third party dsl provider says bell is telling them my line is only 25/4.8 capable and as such, they won't let me sign up for 25/10 (because 4.8 is below their acceptable threshold). How will Bell guarantee me 10 up if I sign up for Bell Fibe??
When will the infrastructure in my area be upgraded so that I can get higher Fibe speeds? For now I'll live with 25/10, but what about 50/10? or higher? Why is every discussion about upgrade timing so opaque and vague? How can that be a plan? |
|
 | i kind of regret signing up for 25/10. my internet is extremely unreliable. do a search on these forums for 'sync no surf'. i get disconnections at least 5 times per day. |

2 edits | I have been exchanging messages with tech support on and off for about 3 months. They fix the problem but then a week later it reappears because their system is auto-correcting their fix.
I can't recommend 25/10 until they fix my issue. |

Bell does not guarantee 10 up it is in the fine print they will give you up to 10 up. So if the 3rd party company is saying 25/4.8 then thats probably more realistic. That being said not all 3rd party dsl companies have agreements to use our field based 7330s which is what guarantees the 10 up, and they may only be leasing a co based o slam which isnt as reliable -- My opinions are my own and do not represent the opinions or wishes of BCE or any of it's subsidiaries. |

slack join:2013-10-01 Canada | Thanks! So am I to understand this: - Bell will let me sign up for their 25/"10" service knowing that it will only actually be 4.8 up - While the 3rd party won't because 4.8 doesn't meet their minimum standard?
Thanks again |

Sorry but I have to correct you on your statements made.
1. Not all 3rd party DSL providers sell the VDSL service, but that doesn't mean that a 3rd party ADSL subscriber can't be put on a 7330 slam or an OSLAM. There are no agreements that are in place that say a 3rd party cannot use a 7330 or OSLAM whether it is located in the field or in a CO.
2. There is no guarantee that a 7330 will do 10 Meg up either. It depends on distance, line condition and if the plant has been groomed. (10M is not always possible; that is why it is sold as an "up to" service, 10M on the upstream is never guaranteed no matter what equipment you are on.)
3. A CO based OSLAM and a CO based 7330 are no different then the one in the field. The OSLAM in the CO is the same as the one on the field, same goes for the 7330.
4. The OSLAM can do 10M upstream the same as the 7330 can. If a customer is on an OSLAM and is located 200m away from it no matter where it is located (field or CO), and another customer is on a 7330 at the same distance they both should still be able to get a 10M upstream. The attainable rate may be higher with a 7330, but it is a completely different type of slam compared to an OSLAM. Both cards can support 10M on the upstream.
5. A CO based OSLAM is just as reliable as a OSLAM located in the field. It isn't that the OSLAM isn't reliable, it's more that the 7330 is a newer technology and functions with different effectiveness. |

Months ago (Oct 2012), Bell claimed my address can support Fibe 25/10. I ordered it but the Up cannot go beyond 2.5 even at 100% line capacity. I ended up taking the Fibe 15/10 which in reality is 15/1.7. The little bit of extra up speed gave me stability (low ping) when my parents's TVPad is fired up so I don't want my old High Speed back.
Now they run the fibre optics across my backyard, I can enjoy my 50/50 anytime with FTTH. -- H. Lo North York, Ontario

I was trying not to get too technical and keep it simple...co based = more distance equals less speeds at the customers receiving end, field based less distance higher chance of 10 up, I shouldn't have said guaranteed, that was my mistake and thank you for correcting it. |

I got myself connected to a 7330 and I get 2.5 up. Reason I'm with Bell is because of Sat TV + Internet price (85$ all in for TV with 15 channels + Fibe 25/2.5 + 2 pvr's). With Videotron, that would cost like 40$ more per month. Crazy... |
