[Business] Does Verizon have NEWSGROUPS

Like the title said.
Does Verizon have NEWSGROUPS?
If so can someone point me in the right direction to set it up?

I do not want to use third party NNTP's

Thanks

They shut down their newsgroups in 2009.

That stinks! Does Cablevision have newsgroups still?

Yes. Binary transfers are capped at 1 or 2Mbps per connection, IIRC.

You will need to ask that in the Cablevision forum not here.

It seems like a lot of ISPs are dropping their newsgroup services, it's not just Verizon. Now you have to seek out newsgroup specific services like giganews or supernews (Which offer far superior newsgroup access and retention)

The initial loss of V* NGs happened several years ago with them getting onboard with the war against (ostensibly) kiddie pr0n (Cuomo's, I think). V* dropped the "alt" groups saying that they were the hotbed of such.

It wasn't but about 1/2 year later that they announced they would shut down their news servers altogether - which they did. It really was a shame since, for an ISP, V* had quite good completion and retention.

Bottom line is, they just wanted to get out of the NG business and used the pr0n excuse to start it.

I didn't even know newsgroup servers still existed anywhere.

I've been using Xnews as my news reader and Teranews as my news server for several years now. The first is free; the second is cheap.

Yes, there's porn and piracy there but there are still a few interesting newsgroups left.

I like Forte, both for email reader and newsgroup reader. Very powerful program. It does cost a bit however. I know Xnews is very good also.
