CALM Act ~ FCC Enforcing Regs for Loud Commercials

Loud commercials are a big problem for me on cable channels on Verizon FiOS in Northern Virginia. FCC passed regulations calling on customers to report loud commercials. Does anyone know if there is a convenient way to register complaints to the FCC regarding loud commercials?

It's useless now with the government shutdown, the FCC is not taking complains now during it.

I thought the boxes had an audio level compression setting that was supposed to fix those types of issues.

Set it to "HIGH" and everything is adjusted to the same volume level.

Set it to "LOW" and you have a wider dynamic range of sound, but some things get too quiet, and other things are too loud.

It's in the menu, but I wish there was an easier way to toggle it back and forth.

Movies sound far better with the wider dynamic range set, where regular TV sort of sounds flat anyways, and the "High" setting helps even out the loud commercials.

Those settings don't do anything on a digital connection.

Actually I'm not positive about HDMI to a TV but I know they are disabled if you're connected to a DD receiver.

It works on HDMI connected directly to a TV.
If not, I'd be mad as hell too.

I have 2 Sammys and a Vizio, it works on all 3 of them.

The Vizio has other annoying HDCP handshake issues with the 7232 DVR, but the audio compression adjustment functions perfectly.

Maybe it's different here because I only have HD DVR's, the HD STB's might implement the feature differently.

CALM Act requires the U.S. Federal Communications Commission to bar the audio of TV commercials from being broadcast at louder sound volumes than the TV program material.

Wow look at that the FCC actually doing something productive again.
