For the second time this year we have an Invest 97 that looks like it may cause troubles. Currently it has a 30% chance of development into a tropical storm. Storm or not it's likely to cause a wet weekend, if it moves as expected. Satellite images tend to indicate decent inflow and outflow, with a center a bit NE of the model guestimates. |

It's looking quite impressive for a TD this morning. Very strong convection developing. |

Looking like Trouble on the Gulf Coast | Shooting the gap |
Looks like I'll be changing the topic name on this one Later today.. Expected to be TS Karen shortly.. As of now She's slipping through the Gap between the Yucatan and Cuba. Winds are already high enough, so if anyone is still working at the NHC after the shutdown I expect Karen to be officially named at 5AM. |

Re: [Serious] Tropical Storm Karen Aiming for Gulf Coast Karen shot the gap this morning and has moved into the Gulf. Conditions along the northern Gulf Coast can be expected to deteriorate today. As of this moment she is a decent tropical storm. It's hard to tell what she will be as she moves closer to the coast, sat images indicate at the moment her convection is being blown off the center of circulation. If that continues, all the bad weather may end up in the big bend area of Florida while "storm center" hits in Alabama almost unnoticed.
Here a direct link to the sat loop, since is changes twice an hour what you see depends on when you look. As of when I'm typing this it shows Karen taking a beating from the shear out of the South West. »www.ssd.noaa.gov/PS/TROP/floater···ong.html |

Karen still split As of 9:30 PM Eastern, Karen is still missing her head ( or convection) which is well to the East of the circulation center. If this continues Karen likely will not make much of an impact. Most of the rain will be to the East of the center.
I plan to keep watching, but I don't expect Karen to cause any big problems.
One thing that can happen is for the circulation center to fall apart and reform under the convection area. If that happen the storm could cause some trouble, but that would be to the East (or Right) of the forecasted track. |

Karen Ripped apart.. Center of circulation circled in yellow |
As of now Karen has been ripped apart and appears to be rapidly accelerating well to the left side of her projected path. If this holds up She could be in the Lake Charles La area around noon. Although as it looks now she won't be much of an impact, she is very dry. Long range radar isn't picking up much rain in the bands. My thoughts are you are going to see some very sad faces on all the storm reporters tomorrow, is it won't be the event they were expecting. |
