Well tough shit. I want everything too be free too. That's not real fucking life though. It's like $4 for the HD version. They can't afford $4? A half hour's work at Burger King will pay for that. |

Tell that to the folks who don't make more then $10 an hour and have bills to pay.
Then $4 is a lot. -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!" |

 | His is a problem I see with lots of "older" folks of the Baby Boom generation (again, using his "I had cable in '83" comment to get a rough estimate of his age). In general, they don't understand just how much the cost of living has increased since they were teenagers and prefer to instead call us "lazy slackers who want everything for free." They don't understand that the cheapest state-sponsored college educational systems still cost thousands upon thousands of dollars to get through, and that a college degree doesn't even guarantee that you'll get a job flipping burgers nowadays. It's a different world than it was even 30 years ago.
Life is hard, always has been and always will be. I understand that. But that doesn't excuse him from clapping his hands over his ears and yelling "I'm not listening I'm not listening!!!" whenever anyone dares to complain about anything just to let off steam. |

1 recommendation | There seems to be a severe disconnect in this country between those that have and those that don't. I see this type of behavior in most 3rd world countries I have worked in.
The haves don't care a lick about the have nots and keep building the fence higher so the have nots can't ever get to have anything, a rare few make it over the fence and the haves like it like that.
To me this is a gigantic disservice to the world, and a reason we have so many wars and fights over petty differences.
People like him remind me of the haves kicking the have nots because they can't afford a loaf of bread.
Global outsourcing has really decayed the middle and lower income families and people in the higher bracket who have cash to invest just don't care, as long as they get theirs they don't care about their neighbors. Through out history civilizations have thrived when people cared for each other, and fell when that care was lost.
Back in the day a car could run as little at $400 and fuel and insurance were really negligible expenses. Now a car that is of decent quality can run 20 to 24 K fuel $3.50 a gallon , insurance $100.
Big differences from when it was cheaper to live and when a majority of the older generation was able to gather wealth, their pay raises quickly outpaced their cost of living raises. Not the case today where cost of living quickly out paces raises, if your lucky enough to get a raise.
People like BF69 are a problem in todays society. They are jealous when others do better then them or have a better deal then they get, but are quick to look down their nose at people who don't have it as good as they do, just telling them to work harder to get what they have, when in all reality, it's not just hard work any more. It's about knowing the right people and being in the right place, as well as being lucky and working hard. This is what happens when you have finite jobs and then flood the market with cheap labor to do some of those finite jobs. You spread the wealth and it all comes back to just being lucky, not hard work any more.
Take a look at how the caste systems developed over time and we see how we are moving along. If your blind to history it will repeat itself ! -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!" |

That really is a stretch. While I don't agree with BF69's attitude as a whole, I do agree with his stance on piracy. I would be in total agreement with you if you were making an apples to apples comparison, but you aren't doing that. I don't think you will find any jealousy when it comes to someone downloading Breaking Bad illegally from anyone on this forum. Why be jealous over that? Now, the pirates that complain that they pirate shows like this because they don't want to wait weeks or months to get them is where the analysis comes into play.
You see, it is no longer about waiting weeks or months. Now in 24 hours the show is ready to be purchased, but yet people choose piracy instead. So if timing isn't the issue, and these people don't want to pay for cable, what is their excuse now? IMHO, its all about money. Why pay $2-$4 for something when you can get it for free after all?
I do agree with what BF69 is saying as a whole. The days of waiting weeks or months for shows like this are over. There are legal ways to obtain these shows, but 1 in 7 pirates are choosing the free option. If it doesn't come down to time, it must come down to money. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

$100 insurance? In NJ I pay more than that a month.

It was 1 of 7 pirates were in the US. I can see what is important here by the passion and volume of posts. |

Inside the US yes things are usually with in a few hours.
Main reason I excuse piracy of US programming outside the US is that sometimes they do have to wait in excess of a month and there is just no logical reason for that in 2013 when content can be delivered to people who want to pay for it anywhere they can acquire the bandwidth. However we still apply artificial limits based country of origin. -- [65 Arcanist]Filan(High Elf) Zone: Broadband Reports |

When Im traveling , you know the first thing I am asked ? Especially from well off tech people. What was the end of a show like ? Or What happened in a show.
Because they can't get it within hours. The major problem here is content is not released at a proper scale, sorry man but we are a global economy now, they want to use it for it's advantages but can't stomach it's disadvantages.
If We all release content at the same time ( torrents and piracy do this ) Im willing to bet piracy numbers would drop a bit, but you still will have piracy, for some people the only good price is free, trying to convert those people is next to impossible. You need to make it economically unfeasible to steal, and with the way our internet is today , that is not an easy task. -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!" |

Back when it took weeks or months to see the show, I would agree with you. Now, less than 24 hours after the show airs, people still pirate it instead of buying. Hell, there are still hundreds of thousands of people doing it now when there are legal ways to obtain the show. I really have serious doubts right now that the difference between 24 hours and immediate access is going to result in higher sales. Especially seeing the trend that we are seeing now.
As you said, for some people, "free" will always be the right price. At the same time though, I see why broadcasters, artists, record labels, and movie companies are going after these people. I fully support their efforts to crack down on people like this. I also believe they could make it even more economically feasible in order to fight piracy. Imagine if the record labels dropped their prices to .50 a song and then HD movie prices were dropped 50% as well. -- My domain - Nightfall.net |

| Sorry should have noted, it was traveling out of the states. Countries where the shows aren't available for months or even years at times.
In one country the series 24 was a whole season behind. Not to mention other shows. -- "It's always funny until someone gets hurt......and then it's absolutely friggin' hysterical!" |
