[DSL] Wanted to Sign up.

I called to sign up for Dsl and talk to an agent. but when I told her I am going to use my own modem which is 2wire modem "Quest firmware" and I used it before with other service provider she told me I cannot used that modem. I have to get another modem or buy from them.

Now, I'm beginning to think that I have to get modem from them to cover the free installation. Just speculation. can someone verify if really I can't use the modem.

Thanks.

»New Approved Modem list

Hmmm, just noticed they only put the cable modems on that list, they used to have a list with both cable and DSL-approved modems.

Either way they don't support your modem. Either you get one they support, or you go with another service provider. I don't understand what you're trying to do.

Yeah, I'm just trying here if I can get an experienced guy, because I spoke to a lady which she said I can't use my modem because it's been locked by Bell. I told her It's been unlocked and it has Quest Firmware. So if it is unlock it should work right?.

Anyway Thanks for the info. but I know some experienced tech know what I'm talking about. And any Bell 2wire can be unlocked with no password needed.

Sorry for posting, can't just believe they have a good promo but hmm..

If you're signing up to DSL Basic 6, FTTN 10 or FTTN 15, you can use your own modem. The option is listed right there on their website: Use your own modem 20.00$. The only time they force you to buy/rent a modem is for the 25/10 VDSL2 service, which requires the Sagemcom.

Thanks, I was signing up for FTTN 10 because that's where my modem and budget is allowable. For just the initial month of 33 + 20$ modem fee I thought it was a steal!.
Now, I'm thinking they probably have lots of modem to get rid off, that is why they have free installation promo to help them minimize their stocks.
Maybe I spoke to an agent that is good in sales but not in technical details. I will probably try to call them again and I hope I'd be able to speak with an agent that knows unlocked and locked firmware is.
