BSAIII join:2007-06-16 Apple Valley, CA | [ONT] Beeping Is there something in the battery part of the ONT that beeps? The battery is in my bedroom. For 2 nights now a quiet beep has woken me up at midnight. It stops before I can locate it. |

Battery measures 13.72 volts out of circuit. I don't think it is bad. It has a sticker saying Top Charge Date 06/27/11. Makes it about 28 months old. |

Power failure will make it beep as well |

Go right to the BBU when you hear the beeping instead of trying to locate it by ear. It's been my experience that when the BBU signals that it has an issue with the battery, it sets the alarm and continues beeping until you press the silence button. Then it may start up again a few hours later, until you silence it again.
Also, the alarm on my BBU is loud enough that I can here it in the kitchen (BBU is in the basement about 20' and a floor away). It is NOT quiet.
I'm thinking that something else (not the BBU) is yelling at you. -- Never raise your hands to your kids. It leaves your groin unprotected. -- Red Buttons |

|
 | I've noticed that unplugging and replugging the battery gets rid of the beeping most of the time unless the battery is really dead.
My problem is that I have to get down on the floor to service the unit. It's not the getting down, it's the getting back up that's difficult. |

You and me both. Think I did something to a rib muscle today. |

The battery can test good with a voltmeter, or during a "short" load test, but still might be going bad.
The BBU periodically puts the battery under an extended discharge cycle test, usually it's a monthly test. If it fails to perform properly for the full duration of the test, the "Replace Battery" light comes on, and the BBU starts it's random beeping.
The reason a voltmeter or a quick load test won't necessarily tell you if the battery is actually starting to go bad, is that the test the BBU does is supposed to verify back-up capability for the telephone service, and if the battery capacity is dropping off after only a few hours, it won't keep the phone working for 8 hours.
So the battery might seem good on the surface, but since it won't last the full length of the test, the BBU flags it as bad.
Removing and re-installing the same battery will usually trick the BBU into thinking the battery was replaced with a new one, but give it a month or so and see if it fails the next run-time test. -- ROCK 'TIL SUNSET |
