Re: Bell Fibe Congestion/Throttling? So after a few games of COD (when I was host, and I know was host 100% there's a way to check) my ping would go down to three bars, instead of being on four the whole time (never had this issue).
So even when I'm host, the ping bar drops to 3 bars... that's not suppose to happen. |

That would be impossible at both ends, though, right? (it would require EA/Treyarch) to ping to my IP? (sorry if I didn't get that part) I'm very frustrated... I just want my internet to be solid like it was the first few days!!! >:( |

Well by the time our network guy and I tested everything to determine it wasn't an issue internally, things started working again so I'm assuming Rogers was aware and fixed it.
I will also say that the Sagecomm modem is an absolutely horrid device, so I wouldn't be surprised if once you put it in bridged mode and used a good commercial router if your issues suddenly disappeared. |

Just something to chew on, a week or 2 ago at work where everything in Canada was fine but trying to get to a site hosted in the states was severely crippled or laggy to the point where many websites were just timing out.
Turned out to be an external issue somewhere on Roger's network. Maybe the same sort of thing is happening to you.....though I will say it was fixed within a couple of hours and by around 9 or 10 am everything was normal again. |

Sorry, I'm not a pro when it comes to these things, but whether I ping google or ea servers... the first few hops = high ping jumps... take a look at the "worst" category, that can't be normal???
Could you guys run a ping test to easo.ea.com and see if you're getting the same thing? |

You should ping your game server, not Google. |

You should also try monitoring with Winmtr and not ping.

There was a time many years ago where WoW had severe ping/lag issues sometimes spiking beyond 5000ms with about a third of the guild often disconnecting at the same time. It turned out to be a failing 10G port between AT&T (one of Blizzard's transit providers) and Peer1.
At other times, it can simply be the destination network/server being overloaded. Nothing you can do about that.
In any case, ping is a LOW priority protocol so CPU or IO load on the router or server can significantly affect it even when the router or server is not particularly heavily loaded. It is a rough indicator of general network condition but by no means reliable or accurate.
If you want an accurate ping, you would need some form of UDP or TCP-based client/server app running at both ends to see exactly how the network and server perform while handling normal traffic at normal routing and processing priority levels. |

I don't know anyone in my neighborhood that has DSL, and I don't think anyone would be open to giving me their DSL username info, but I'll try.
I had two routers somewhere in the house (a linksys and a d-link) I'll take a look again and see if I can find them, if not, I might as well head to Staples/Best Buy and get one.
Very frustrated right now. |

You keep saying this is a Bell problem, a ping even if there's a 20ms increase will not make the game unplayable, there's tons of factors that can change pings. You've swapped from Rogers to Bell, you have the same issue, you found posts with similar issues, those guys took the console and plugged it into the backbone of the Internet, they had the same issue. Consider that if bridge mode and a real router won't help, this is a problem with the game, or the games routes. This may not be something you can ever fix.
Also, when you link pings, make sure you compare the same servers, the ones you just listed were different.
You have 2 options in front of you now, borrow someone's login for paper for a few hours, (make sure they turn off their modem, you both don't want to use it at the same time) Next, try bridge mode.
All of your tests look good, and your speeds/pings are great too. |

OK... when I ping google, it's always around 18-20 ms stable... take a look at THIS:
Pinging google.ca [74.125.225.55] with 32 bytes of data Reply from 74.125.225.55: bytes=32 time=49ms TTL=54 Reply from 74.125.225.55: bytes=32 time=43ms TTL=54 Reply from 74.125.225.55: bytes=32 time=51ms TTL=54 Reply from 74.125.225.55: bytes=32 time=43ms TTL=54
THEN... it went back to: Pinging google.ca [74.125.225.56] with 32 bytes of dat Reply from 74.125.225.56: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=54 Reply from 74.125.225.56: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=54 Reply from 74.125.225.56: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=54 Reply from 74.125.225.56: bytes=32 time=20ms TTL=54

lol... ha. Honestly don't know what else to say, other than lol.
Honestly, to come think of it, congestion (when there's a lot of people on at once) seems to be the most logical answer to this problem.
I'm not sure if Bell got more customers in my area after Sept 26th or people decided not to use TV/Internet the first few days that I had it, but a lot of people (just gamers in general) experience better gaming after 9 or 10 pm (when people go to sleep)... that's a symptom of over subscription/too many people on at once.
Does Bell fix congestion issues by any chance? (I doubt they do) |

I remember, I think a couple months back in the NA league of legends sever that everyone in Ontario using Bell internet disconnected and couldn't connect to League of legends for like 4 hours. Something like that as I was one of them.
Funny thing, today I had a phone call around 3pm ish, a person from Bell tech center called me saying I had some problems with the internet right. So I go ahead to tell him 3 other's are already working on the problem so he's like ok well if you still need help you can call this #. 1minute after that call, I disconnected from the game 4 times. |

I'll def. give that a go after I receive my new modem sometime next week. |

One thing you can do, and I apologize if you've tried or it's been suggested, is put the Sagecomm in "bridge" mode and use a commercial router to handle all of the traffic. |

Yeah, playing on this connection is simply unplayable. Well, no more online gaming for me anymore (thanks Bell & Rogers).
I don't think this issue can be resolved, because: 1) No one knows what possibly could be causing the issue 2) Bell most likely won't fix it
I wouldn't want anyone to waste their time on this issue anymore, I'll be getting a new modem sometime next week, and if that doesn't solve the problem, then I don't think I want to bother even resolving it, because I don't think it can get solved.
But thanks to everyone that tried to help.
Edit: One last idea, has there been a firmware update for the Sagemcom modem recently? |

By "bill will if need be kick a tipa client off the remote" what do you mean be that? Sorry, I didn't understand that part. |

 | reply to iUnReaL
im not a gamer in anyway. but im sure they have forums of some sort. just ask around the forum. from your test results it doesnt seem to be an issue with the connection. bell is upgrading like crazy to handle the transit required for tv over the phone lines. bell will if need be kick a tpia client off the remote and hook them back up if need be. |

I don't do any PS3 gaming, do you get a proper lagometer? »en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lagometer

lol, I play competitively here and there, so you need fast reactions when it comes to competitive gaming.
This has nothing to do with me, but with my characters/players being slow... can't turn, feel like I'm a second behind, etc. My brother notices this as well, and isn't too happy about it either.
Yeah, I have to find someone who even has DSL... I don't know anyone that has DSL, so I think I'm kinda screwed there.
Now, if this is a congestion issue (where there's too many people on at once) can this be fixed, will they even do anything? |

For the third party providers, the b1 number looks like an email address though. bob@teksavvy.com, or whatever. Because of the way DSL works, you'd be making a huge change in the routing.
You have to allow for another possibility though. This sluggish reaction time thing.. Well, from experience I can tell you, it could be that your just getting old -- electronicsguru.ca |

But Nitra, if all other games (not just EA games) are effected, then how could it possibly be only EA/gaming servers? Why would the first few days be flawless (with any game, including FIFA which is an EA game)
If anyone else was effected by this, then there would be a lot of other people (not just me) that's experiencing this. I'm not sure an average joe could notice a difference, but someone who plays competitive/semi-pro would instantly know the difference.
There was a person from the GTA area who was experiencing the same problem I was having for FIFA (but it effects all other games as well, some sort of one-way latency issue)
Here's the thread: »Does anyone play FIFA on PS3? Troubleshooting network issue
Now... to find someone else's login information.... I don't know anyone that has DSL :/ |

It very well may be on Bells network, but also, it could be on EA's side of things, or whatever game you're playing.
You need to find someone that has DSL, but not with Bell and use their login information for a night, see if it sorts itself out.
If you still have the same lag on another ISP, it's not a Bell issue. |

Crap... gotta find someone willing to give their PPPoE login... :/
But this is a congestion problem on Bell's network, right? Do they fix these sort of issues? |

If this is the issue, it would be worth borrowing a PPPoE login from a friend on a different ISP. All new routing, could help. -- electronicsguru.ca |
