| OOL still disallows servers on 15/5 tier? This is probably an obvious answer, but it wasn't clear on their site when checking the $69.95 double play offer.
Will CV allow running an Asterisk PBX, FTP, and Exchange box behind regular OOL?
Back when I had Verizon residential DSL, servers were disallowed but I ran them anyway without any grief. I'm contemplating FiOS for this very reason.
I can do this now using promo Ultra 101 but when the promo runs out, so will my subscription to that.
TIA |

 | They disallow it on all residential tiers.
FTP will be more than fine but Exchange prolly wont work well since you are on a residential block, most email server wont accept mail from you not to mention port 25 is blocked on that 15/5 tier. On the 50 and higher tier it's unblocked but probably still not a good idea.
Since you say you are using it now though how are you doing Exchange? |

| I forward all outbound SMTP traffic from Exchange box to CV's mail servers. Once you do that, RBL's don't tag traffic from your domain as spam due to originating IP address and leave it alone. It technically shouldn't work, but it does. Since I don't run an open relay and don't push much outbound traffic, it's never been an issue.
I run an Exchange 2007 box. Nothing to it once your box is setup and running. It's still the same in/out port 25 and if OOL blocks that port, there's always SMTP traffic redirection services. But if the CV security department will call like little network nannies and threaten to suspend service, that defeats the point of using that.
I did this with Verizon without needing to use traffic redirection and it worked fine. |

 | Ok then yeah, Smarthost with CV will work just fine. Just incoming is blocked on your the 15Mbps tier then so you'd have to keep at least 50Mbps to unlock that or use the redirection services.
They wont necessarily complain, it's just not supported so they don't care per say like how your previous thing with Verizon was. |

| In the past with CV, I was forced to upgrade to BOOL for running servers. Remember BOOL? It's one of the reasons I left and went with Verizon.
I wonder what the deal is now. Whether they won't support, or they care and kick you out or force you onto Ultra. |

Servers are not supported on 15/5 only.
FTP and Web servers only are supported on Ultra 50/Ultra 101. This has been the case since the original Boost (30/5) days. Having Ultra 50 or 101 allows you to open ports 25/80.
According to the TOS, you are not allowed to run other servers - but as long as you're not hosting a business on your residential connection, they most likely won't care. This is actually more lenient than Verizon's residential TOS, which forbids all servers. The only difference is Verizon (at least on FiOS) no longer blocks 25/80 on any tier.
Business OOL (BOOL) has no such restrictions. -- University of Southern California - Fight On! |
