 | Apple Mouse I have the apple gesture mouse. Really like it. However, I have had it for about 3 months now and I have had to replace the batteries twice. They are new batteries. Is this by design. It's a pretty expensive mouse. |

how often do you use it?
i've had mine for about a year or so now. i've only replaced the batteries once since buying it. i've used it off and on for that year -- but i'm starting to use it more and more frequently. i replaced the batteries about 3 weeks ago and i'm only at 97% by the battery indicator on my mba.

| I use it at my office so I'm using it 5-6 days a week. Maybe about a total of 6 hours a day. Does it go into a sleep mode when I'm not touching it? I mean, I'm not using it 100% of the time while in the office. I've never kept track how many times I actually move the mouse. I guess its one of those things that you never think about. |

have you used 'decent quality' batteries?

I switched over to rechargeable, they work great and last about three weeks per charge for me. I use my Mac everyday for 8 to 10 hours for my work. |

My Apple mouse uses way more battery than the BT keyboard, I know that much. It's used on my Mac mini which is really only used as an iTunes server so I don't do much on it. I replace the batteries every few months I think. -- My Gallery Formerly Nezmo |

These Eneloop AA batteries are a great way to get started with rechargeables: »www.amazon.com/eneloop-typical-P···atteries
We use them for everything. Top rated at Amazon. |

Yes the mouse actually uses more BT channels than the keyboard does to support the gestures. Wireless keyboards will usually last much longer than a wireless mouse. Powering the laser, extra BT channels plus the gesture pad takes a lot more power. |

it eats batteries. Helps to have your mac on sleep, otherwise it eats them faster.
Also I notice that the batteries make poor contact inside, and rechargeables don't last long - the mouse loses connection when the voltage goes lower.
Also sometimes (rarely) it frustratingly disconnects and starts that flashing green thing you just have to wait.
I much prefer the touch pad and its batteries seem to last longer, more in line with the keyboard battery lifetime. |

It's a fabulous mouse... but it isn't $70 nice with $30 for rechargeables. |

My MagicMouse goes through power pretty quickly...in fact, I just got the warning message that it is running low. I do use rechargables, however, and that at least means I'm not feeding spent batteries to the trash. |

+1 on the Eneloops. I buy them at Costco ... fantastic product.
I use them in my camera flash (Canon 430EX II) and they do magical things there. The cycle time is GREATLY improved over alkalines; I can snap several photos in rapid-fire succession without any issue. |

I mainly use a Track pad, but have the magic mouse as well (for some applications I prefer to use a mouse) I would say it's about a 90/10 split on usage. Anyhow I change out the re-chargble batteries once a month on the Magic trackpad, and every two on the mouse. -- Not many people know this, but I happen to be quite famous... |

We have two and I had to return one when it was about two months old because it didn't like any of the new batteries I tried to use. We have to replace the batteries just about every month but they'd probably last longer if we remembered to turn the mouse off when we shut the computer down. |

I think the mouse sleeps when not in use for X amount of time, so I doubt shutting it off would make that big of a difference, and what's with shutting down the computer? Do people still do that? -- Not many people know this, but I happen to be quite famous... |

StacyFotoDoguePremium join:2001-11-02 New York, NY | I know I occasionally go into sleep mode...no idea about the mouse.
Yes sometimes we shut down this poor 7 year old iMac when it gets cranky and demands a nap. |
