Cool Landlord

My landlord is the coolest. After initially allowing me to put up one antenna, during a recent visit, he noticed how unobtrusive it appeared from the ground.

Sensing a favorable response, I asked him if he would okay a second one.

Every other apartment I ever lived in prohibited accessing the roof for any reason (let alone putting up two antennas), so this is a huge WIN.

GP-98 and Solarcon A-99.

It appears he is very considerate. Particularly when you consider you live in California.

Before I got married and moved into a house, my landlady was equally approving of my "Run of the Roof" in the apartment building she owned.

It was a large two-story commercial building, with 6 apartments on the second floor.

I was 50' above ground, with a clear 360* view. Really good for VHF/UHF stuff!

Forty years ago, I lived in a high-rise apartment building in Silver Spring, MD. When we moved in, I asked the building manager if I could put an antenna on the roof. She allowed me to put a fan dipole up there, and to hang the coax down to my apartment. The roof was about 150 feet or so above ground! To this day, I appreciate the ease with which I made contacts all over the world with my dipole and Heathkit SB-102.

Kudos to your landlord! I assume your antennas are well grounded.

Grounded and easy to disconnect from my radios (Kenwood TM-G707 and Magnum 251) if there is a storm. Not a lot of lightning here in my neck of Sunny SoCal, though.

Still, Murphy might bite me, but only if I DON'T take precautions.
