Re: Bugatti -- may be the best car deal right now

Bugatti is a "Halo" car. It loses money per unit, but makes money for VAG overall as priceless marketing.

Revenue 114,297B EURO =155,551B USD at current exchange rate.. 4.5B over 7 years is nothing - less than 1% annually.

So what? Nobody is talking about profits here, we are talking about losses and $4.5 billion lost in 7 years on a silly gimmick is no small change.

Actually a Smart Car is very safe in accidents. More than several small autos.

And the one place a Smart Car is good for I would never feel safe in one, the streets of NYC... Not with aggressive cabbies in their big ole crown vics.

Same here ... I would hate to be in a smart car in an accident.

The only "plus" for Smart is that a dealership in Manhattan is offering free parking for life. Good if you commute in from NJ and happen to work near the lot offered around W57th I think.

According to VW executives, "despite charging a minimum of $2 million for each Veyron, VW had taken an average loss of $6.2 million on every one"

Oh, and Mercedes lost a grand total of "$4.5 billion on Smart between 1997 and 2003". I guess Smart wasn't a particularly smart idea, after all.

no one wants to drive a smart car

tooo little value for the price who the hell would pay 12k for such a tiny car.

maybe if it was priced at 6-8k then more people would buy it

plus the resale value sucks

I think that is the problem right there, One can get a certified preowned(used) Honda Civic thats off lease for around that or less. And they will get great fuel economy, proven reliable model, And generally good warranties from the dealer, And far more trunk space.

Yahoo reporters should look at their own financials sometime. But I digress.
