Wasn't it good enough when Ronny Raygun upgraded spending
on the military and hard working American taxpayers had to spend $trillions on useless crap nuclear weapons that have to be dismantled in the future? I don't think Russia's interested in attacking some Canadian eskimos and stealing their igloos.

Placing fear in the sheeple population, to extort $trillions of dollars
in military spending has to be the biggest scam the rich buggers of the world
have ever invented - in human history. So while billionaire Russians supply Europe with oil to heat themselves, those same billionaires fleece the poor Russians, who must pay for
bombs to aim at those Europeans.

BIGGEST.
SCAM.
EVER.

Yeah right. Putin's a threat so we must spend more on military being scammed
out of our own money.

And Putin tells his slaves they also must spend more on military because we're a threat.

That's an old trick.

I remember how urgent it was for Canada to test cruise missiles for our American buddies to the south of us becuase we were told Russia was some sort of threat to us. It turned out the Americans were the biggest threat, and they used those cruise missiles that we helped them test...on Iraqis in the middle east. And Russia never even said 'NO.'

how ironic, just 2 days ago i was listening to "diane francis" a journalist who has written a new book on how US and Canada should merge....she brought up the arctic and says this; "And unless we Canadians embrace a full-fledged union with the United States, she argues, we are destined to become "neo-colonial" vassals of Beijing, and victims of Russian gunboat diplomacy in the Arctic Ocean"

have a read, you might find her proposals interesting, but keep in mind she writes strictly from an economical view point, she cites business is her only motto with this proposal.

Interesting, I think that Jonathan Kay has a good rebuttal.

I think that the two nations are far better off cooperating through the International Joint Commission, NAFTA, NORAD, NATO, and especially COSTCO.

Nah. Putin couldn't stop Russia's far east from turning Chinese if he wanted to.
Russia couldn't defeat Afghanistan. - I doubt Putin's interested in stealing anything from Canada.

Gershom isn't the first person that would like to see Canada spend $billions on 'upgrading.' Here is what Helen Caldicott said about Canada's insane plan to purchase nuclear submarines for the north in the early 1980s:

Caldicott: Of course. The Soviet Union is threatened because your submarines would be used to attack Soviet submarines. If your submarines destroy a Soviet submarine, that could well induce a nuclear war and end most life on the planet. The participation to militarize Goose Bay is also threatening to the Soviet Union. Militarization of your North is part of the Northern Early Warning Systems, which is part of the Star Wars first strike scenario. It is extremely evocative and provocative and could initiate nuclear war. I don't know why you Canadians allow this from Mulroney, who is just a Reagan clone. You know Reagan isn't very smart, and I don't think Mulroney is either. Your politicians are not well informed on this issue at all; they tend to echo what Washington tells them to do. I would think that you should be very indignant that you are represented by people who really don't know what they are doing.

Instead of using keeping this old 'Cowboys vs Indians', 'Good guys vs Bad guys', 'With us or against us' mentality why not try to negotiate something, create better ties between the countries etc?

Agreed, but there's no job security in that scenario.

If Canada can negotiate a deal with Col. Putin, that would be super.

Everyone knows what pacifists and nice guys the Russians are....

....except those young ladies like Nadezhda Tolokonnikova (and so many others) that he sent to Siberia.

(Yeah, I'm not proud of my country's Guantanamo, but it pales in comparison to the Soviet/Russian gulags).

No need to worry, those steath snowmobiles that we talked about recently will be plenty to keep the Ruskies out.

The Russians, who have as many $billionaires as anyone else will have no problem the next time USA and their goofy little friends (Canada) agree to invade some country for oil. Because the Russians ($billionaires) also make more money when the price of oil goes up. So they aren't our enemy any more.

Buy stocks in Russian oil company.
Buy stocks in Canadian nuclear sub/military industry.

WIN/WIN situation.

Gershom - USA spends more on wars (mostly illegal) than all the other countries on earth
COMBINED. Don't try to persuade Canada to spend more. We're already too
good to you guys by giving you dirt cheap oil.

Canada stands poised to ramp up trade relations with Russia. The move comes after criticism from Russian President Vladimir Putin that Canada is missing opportunities for importing and exporting with his homeland.

Ed Fast, Canada's international trade minister, is planning to visit Russia in June in an attempt to bolster trade relations between the two countries.

By the way, I love how Russia dealt with ecoterrorists.. Just rounded up everyone who participated in the raid on their oil platform and charged them with piracy

Penticton is getting a Target. That'll be good because we already have American retailer WalMart. In the last thirty years I've watched smaller businesses go broke, while big corporations gradually get bigger and bigger. Soon, a handful of corporations will have 100% control of most of the food and retail in Canada. That'll be nice.

And I've seen BC apple acreage drop from 20,000 acres to 7,000 as many smaller growers just 'disappeared.' Washington state's apple industry is now twenty times as big as we are. I know of three orchardists, all about fifty who suddenly died - probably from exposure to pesticides. I know how hard Canadian farmers must work...just to survive. No subsidies for small farmers any more. Canada doesn't have enough money.

So I can't think of anything more repulsive and obscene as when someone comes along and suggests that Canadian taxpayers should carry a heavier burden by paying 'more' for military instead of less. While a few billionaires in Russia buy yachts bigger than anything I've ever seen in my life, and live like kings in England (Roman Abramovich) I'm supposed to pay for more submarines because Russia's a 'threat?' I'm supposed to pay for bombs, because Russia has ( or had) 'gulags?'

Before I pay one cent for bombs to aim at Russians who can barely afford to heat their house in the winter because their billionaires are sending oil to Europe, I think Europe should boycott Russia, and stop buying oil. Yeah, that's how to punish them for having gulags. Boycott them and stop buying their oil in winter time. But don't tell me to build more bombs, when I'm already losing money selling apples at 1980s prices.

Don't insult my intelligence.

Typical Canuck. In order for Walmart to be so successful people have to be buying off them. You don’t?

Why should I subsidize farmers no-one subsidises me? I think agricultural supply management qualifies as subsidies anyways. The dairy market dumps down the drain how much each year to keep prices artificially high.

As opposed to lets see the e-health, orange oh lets not forget the cancelling the nuclear generating plants. Then there is the all day day-care real smart for a government to implement when they are deep in the red. Yep I don’t know about you but shit like that gives a much better return on my dollar.

Yes let the russkies have the resources they need more billionaires.

Sure stop buying oil off a major supplier and then watch oil prices in this country skyrocket. People are complaining now the prices now would be nothing if a large supplier were eliminated. You realize crude is used for more then just your car?

The jobs from resource development in the north would be good paying jobs look what a miner at DeBeers gets. The spin-offs from military contracts especially if the majority of it is kept in Canada would also provide good jobs. Negotiations would probably cost more in lost revenue and standard government inefficiency then a modest military investment. We also signed agreements on mutual defence in NATO. It’s so much better to have the government dole out cash to people for jack though.

I highly doubt the Russians would invade us but they likely would go up north and start drilling or mining and we wouldn’t even know. By the time we negotiated any settlement it would be generations later and we would have lost trillions.
