We have service turned on out there, and the Windstream 4200 modem is showing a green DSL light, but she cannot get the Internet to activate. She has a Mac and says she can't run any of their CDs, and we don't even have a mailbox there yet. She confirms VPI and VCI are set to standard 0/35.
She said she was on with tech support for an hour, who kept asking her repeatedly to factory-reset the modem, click on Internet Explorer, and it would take her to the TOS page. What happens when she does this is the browser reports it's not connected to the Internet.
Supposedly the factory reset makes the modem hijack DNS to route the connection to the activation server, but that isn't working.
My wife says all this can be solved if Windstream provides a username and password to put in the PPPoE fields, but tech support told her they don't know and they refused to create one.
What is going on here? How can we get online? |

Activating windstream on a mac is a bit tricky, I was once helping a customer out ( i install dish tv ) they where got windstream installed same day. I ended up having to get my windows laptop out and activating that way. Was easy. For some reason safari doesn't like windstreams way of doing it. Your wife just needs to call back and have them release the modem. |

timmus join:2005-06-27 Norman, OK 1 edit | UPDATE: I didn't get any reply in Windstream Direct and I was worried phone support was going to close, so I called in and an agent set up a username/password manually. I put that in the PPPoE field on the modem, and 10 seconds later the Internet was working.
I'm a bit pissed the first lady we talked to at Windstream gave us misinformation, but the guy I talked to a few minutes ago made up for it and got business done. |

Re: [Connectivity] Unable to get activated on Windstream (SOLVED First I am glad your internet is now working and windstream phone support was able to help you out. What I meant about releasing the modem is, when a new modem is connected, Windstream puts the modem behind a "walled garden" or a proxy which only allows it to access the windstream activation page. When you enter in your username and pass and so forth something on windstreams end will "release the modem" and allow it to out of that walled garden. Sometimes a tech on the phone will have to manually do it or can manually do it. They are basically making sure that the modem is being used by an actual subscriber and not random joe on the corner. Sorry I wasn't more clear in the first post. All that matters is its working now Enjoy . |
