45 Mbps service

Checked AT&T site and determined that the new 45 Mbps tier is available (I'm about 1500 buried cable ft from the VRAD). I ran CAT5e from my utility room to the outside NID about a year ago but never got U-Verse. If I just sign up for 45 Mbps internet
service will I be getting the NVG589? If so, will they use the CAT5e between it and the NID, and if they do, how many pairs will they use? I prefer not to use my coax from utility room to the cable co outside interface. Thanks
Also is the cap for 45 Mbps still 250GB?

I'm pretty certain they will use the cat5 over coax, in any scenario where possible.

Also. they haven't officially announced removal of the cap; however, they aren't bothering with it on U-verse and there is talk they are getting rid of it completely.

Yes you will get a NVG589 -- It's the only RG supported currently for the Power Tier.

Yes it requires multiple pairs -- They use two pairs from the outside to the RG (router/gateway) for the service.

Typically the connection is ran over a cat5 cable for the telephone connection from the outside.

Does anyone know when they will acutally install the power tier in Dallas?

When they did my install I told them the coax cable was off limits. All but one room was networked at the time, and they pulled that run in for me. It wasn't any sort of performance call, but I wanted the swap back to cable to be seemless if I didn't like Uverse.

Thanks all for the responses. I rewired my U-verse RJ11/VDSL for 2 pairs (was 1) based on this info (USOC color code and green and brown pairs to 3&4 and 2&5 respectively).

No time soon, I'm sure. DFW is a pretty huge area.

that's not so true....people in Aubrey are getting ...now. Guess it just depends on what sections of Dallas they begin? odd they would pick Aubrey...that's out there a ways..as in barely considered part of DFW (no offense!) , and here I am in the middle of north Dallas, 4 miles from two of their biggest Central offices in Texas. Also, people in Arlington are getting it too...so it has begun. I guess a better question is...what the heck is the criteria for neighborhoods to start turning it up.? I mean come on!? Aubery ?!? Again no offense!! but, how many users are there out there? two ?....as opposed to North Dallas...or Dallas.

It seems to be the smaller towns/cities outside of Dallas.. just not Dallas. People from Prosper have reported live. Saying it's available in/around DFW is a good way to make press that you've brought the upgrade to a very large area, while not actually covering that large of an area. They need to actually bring it to Dallas.

Yep. I just placed my upgrade order the other day in Prosper. I'm only 1323 cable feet from the VRAD on pretty new copper plant and have good stats on the 24Meg package. So hopefully I have a smooth install and things remain just as stable.

If this was Chicago it would easily be considered a full fledged suburb. I live in Prosper. 30 minutes on the toll road to downtown is nothing. I used to live and work in Chicago and it would easily take an hour to get downtown by car from St. Charles. Give it a few years when the toll road is extended and this will all be fully considered part of Dallas.
