New tm862

So i got my new modem today for self install. Its a tm862. I usually use motorola 5120 and a linksys wireless router thats in the basement and hasnt been touched in probably 6 months or more. I guess this 862 is wireless. Anything i should know?

Why did you go with the gateway?

Most likely it was whatever the warehouse sent him. That's what I got at my beach house this summer even though I didn't need all the functionality.

I take it the wireless is locked down since i couldnt get it to work? Guess im going to have to read up on it since its been years since i did that shit. Any suggestions? Ok guess i should have read the instructions. i see the info is on the bottom of the modem lol

The modems free for a year so at this point i dont see much reason to buy my own and return it.

Good luck with that POS. There are boatloads of posts here and at other forums regarding the abysmal performance of the router and wireless radio components of that device..

Have them put it in to full bridge mode so that it acts as a plain vanilla cable modem and then use your own high quality router with it. It appears to perform well as a modem only.

Do an ipconfig and see what your gateway is. I am pretty sure those are not 192.168.1.1.

If wired speeds are good you can always call Comcast and get them to bridge it so you can use your own router if you have wifi issues.

So at worst he has it bridged and uses his old router or even updates it.
Not terrible for a free trial.

for now i just hung my linksys off it, will work on that tomorrow. Thanks tho I didnt have it bridged but everything seems to work.

Any way to turn off the security for the 862 and still use wireless? Ide rather not have to deal with security. Im not worried about someone jumping on my wireless. My neighbors truly are dum as stumps since they are all trees.

As I said it's a free trial in his case. He should still see a big bump vs the old D2, and if it's unreliable trade it in or replace is still an option, and couple days ago switching providers was the best option.

Quakertown isn't the sticks.
