rody_44Premium join:2004-02-20 Quakertown, PA | New tm862 So i got my new modem today for self install. Its a tm862. I usually use motorola 5120 and a linksys wireless router thats in the basement and hasnt been touched in probably 6 months or more. I guess this 862 is wireless. Anything i should know? |

Most likely it was whatever the warehouse sent him. That's what I got at my beach house this summer even though I didn't need all the functionality.
Rody- How's those D3 signals? Despite all the Gateway haters here on the board - that unit worked flawlessly for me over the summer. |

Good luck with that POS. There are boatloads of posts here and at other forums regarding the abysmal performance of the router and wireless radio components of that device..
Have them put it in to full bridge mode so that it acts as a plain vanilla cable modem and then use your own high quality router with it. It appears to perform well as a modem only. |

Do an ipconfig and see what your gateway is. I am pretty sure those are not 192.168.1.1.
If wired speeds are good you can always call Comcast and get them to bridge it so you can use your own router if you have wifi issues. |

If you don't mind me asking, how did you get it free for a year?
For your wireless issue, you don't see any "HOME-XXXX" network broadcasting? You can try to restore to factory defaults and see if that does it.
I did have problems however with the gateway(Even in bridge mode).
You can access the settings of this gateway at: 192.168.100.1 for basic modem stats 10.0.0.1 for the modem/router portion of it. It has some wireless settings there, but you can't do much with it.
Defaults for 10.0.0.1

So at worst he has it bridged and uses his old router or even updates it. Not terrible for a free trial. |

You are daisy chaining two routing devices in this configuration so you now have an undesirable double NAT condition on your home network. It will function but may cause some problems. |

The TG862 caused problems for me while even in bridge mode. It would normally not pass any data as times when accessing certain things. |

FWIW, you may have had problems with bridge mode, but for seeing posts for two years here and at other forums, that is not the general case. |

Go to 10.0.0.1 type in admin/password to log in. Then go to the wireless settings page and there should be a section for wireless security. Just be aware that you'll risk what some random person may randomly do if they get on it. |

As I said it's a free trial in his case. He should still see a big bump vs the old D2, and if it's unreliable trade it in or replace is still an option, and couple days ago switching providers was the best option. |
