I did remove some info as it pertained to cost and what is covered under my HOA agreement.
Agent wasn't too sure when this would roll-out, but when it does, TV's without a cable box WILL require the device.
I was a little confused as it was NOT clear that ONLY TV's directly connected to the cable, and not via a box needs this h/w. It was not too clear on that and I thought it might be replacing out cable boxes, so I had to call.
I now assume that the TV (older, not digital) that now gets only the first 72 channels (I think?) will be able to get all non-HD channels after the device is installed? -- Irv Spalten |

Good question. I didn't ask? Agent said she could have it 'delivered' on Sat. afternoon. She said it was a small device about the size of a smart phone? I don't think it would take a rocket scientist to remove the input cable, put it on the device and connect it to the TV? I guess you can ask when you call if you get a similar e-mail? -- Irv Spalten |

Irv... you need to correct your title because it is wrong. Only CFL is going all digital. This will not impact any other region. |

Would we be able to use these to split the signal (in conjunction with a DVR) to allow connection to a PIP input on a TV? |

Gary is this in addition to the SDV tuning adapter and cablecard for TIVO users? We will need 3 add-ons or does it replace anything? |

Nothing changes for cable card users....this is only impacting those with standard or basic cable or without a box or cable card. -- ~All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident. - Arthur Schopenhauer ~

You could split the composite out but not sure why because it would be on the same channel....if you want PIP we have a DVR for that -- ~All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident. - Arthur Schopenhauer ~

I had planned to talk with you guys soon enough about this but since Irv couldn't control himself here goes... (It's okay Irv I understand your excitement )
1) This only applies to CFL customers. So Tampa, Detroit, Birmingham, Indy, Bakersfield nothing changes for you. I will only answer questions from CFL folks about the change.
2) Any reception device (TV or whatever) that currently receives standard or basic cable without a box or cable card of some type will require either a Digital Adapter, Box or Cable Card.
3) CFL customers will be contacted through a number of different methods about this just as Irv has been. You do not need to wait and honestly I encourage you to go ahead and start the process now. Great care and special arrangements have been made for you CFL folks to make this as easy and painless as possible. If you have any questions feel free to ask me.
4) I will say this straight up...you are going to love these devices. I have tested them for quite some time now and there is honestly nothing to hate or dislike. Video quality is outstanding, audio just as good, they are fast tuning and so small you can attach them to the back of your TV and use IR repeater attached somewhere and you will never notice it. "Velcro" type tape is your friend.
5) Digital Adapters will work with any TV, old or new we have you covered from an interface perspective. So don't worry you won't need to go out and buy a new TV.
You may pick these devices up from your local lobby location now or we alternative methods for delivery and in the rare instance where you need help installing them we have you covered there as well. If you choose to do it yourself and you need help I am here for you please do not be shy....no question is a dumb question. -- ~All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. I have a DVR but honestly my TV does a better job with PIP. The DVR PIP is set up for a 4:3 TV and not a WS HD display. My TV puts the PIP further towards the corner of the picture. Also, the TV has the option the split the screen in half which allows for 2 screens side by side. Easier to watch due to bigger pictures.
So. if I were to put a splitter in between the wall and the DVR, I would get the same channel on both? |

I will have to check and see if the composite/coax and HDMI transmit simultaneously. remind me later in the weekend and I will try to conjur up an older tv to try this. -- ~All truth goes through three phases. 1) You may have up to 2 Digital Adapters free until Jan 2015 thereafter $1.00 per month and any additional DA's beyond the 2 free @ $1.00 per month now.
2) You should go ahead and prepare now, conversion will be done hub by hub. -- ~All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident. - Arthur Schopenhauer ~

I'm excited but it probably will not mean more HD until all divisions outside of The Panhandle do this.
Hopefully, it means more channels coming off of SDV and not having to see the zap2it channel guide on MTM's anymore. |

I am thinking this may take like 3-4 months or longer to as I know that Charter went all digital in their Fort Worth Texas system right next to my city and they took about 3 1/2 months to convert each hub on that system plus another 2 hubs in another system to all digital with them having no SDV went from around 60 HD channels to 140 HD channels each week as they cut over hubs to all digital. |

Okay one last question. For the TV in my office I just have the cable plugged straight into the TV and get about 80-100 channels, all basic I guess. I was going to pick up a SDV adapter tomorrow for that TV. Should I go ahead and pick up this new digital adapter too and use both or is the digital adapter all that is needed now? If yes, which one plugs in to the cable first?
Thanks, Wesley |
|
 | I believe that Bright House is moving expanded basic HD channels off of SDV but anything higher than that is likely to stay SDV. So pretty much if you want digital tiers a SDV adapter is still needed. |

If you don't have a Tivo you need the digital adapter which is the Cisco 170HD DTA and like BHNtechXpert has said the first two are free until January 2015. TWC has been doing similar offers in some areas where they are converting channels to digital only. I know that right now TWC is pushing major updates on the internet such as 8 downstream and 4 upstream in most cases or at least is working towards that along with replacing DOCSIS 2.0 modems with DOCSIS 3.0 ones in my area
I don't know what Bright House is doing the digital push in Central Florida for other and I am guessing to move channels off of SDV and be able to have more room for future services such as having more than 8 downstreams on the internet in the future. The cool thing is that TWC and Bright house seem to team up on digital boxes, software and channels so you may have similar software, hardware, etc. to TWC but Bright House decides how it is used such pricing and their specialization of apps and internet tiers. |

So I should plug in the digital adapter first, then the SDV, then the TV? Maybe they need to put up a guide. |

 | You cant put a tuning adapter on an digital adapter. You can however get a digital box which accomplishes all of that |

I smell a sneaky ever increasing new revenue source for Bright House. Regardless...I just called bright house and they weren't very helpful with this process. The only options available were to either go to a local office to pick up the device myself or to wait over a week for a tech to come out to my area on a workday weekday (which is crazy). If the devices are about the size of a smart phone, and are super easy to hook up, then they should technically be easily and inexpensively mailed out. I can't believe bright house doesn't have that option available. Why would Bright House pay for an expensive employee/tech's salary, pay for gas etc. just for a very simple delivery? Why not just mail the digital adapter out to the customer if they request it? It would be cheaper and more convenient for both Bright House and the customer. I guess they don't work that way. This situation just reminded me of the most recent episode of South Park: "Then theres Time Warner Cable, which isnt actually referenced in the episode by name but the logos on the shirts of the sadomasochistic cable-company employees depicted in the episodes sure look familiar. Those shirts are also drawn to have flaps that descend to reveal the employees nipples, which they rub ecstatically as various South Park characters complain to them about everything from the inability to pick cable channels a la carte to the incredibly long waiting times for service repair." "We'll just need to find a window of time you can be home... How about between the hours of 6 am and 3 pm all of November? " Im sorry sir, if you need it now perhaps you should switch to another cable company, the representative coolly and condescendingly replied while suggestively rubbing his own nipples. Oh wait. Theres not another cable company, is there? Were the only one in town. Jeez that's too bad. You need to be home for the technician. Have you thought of switching to DirecTV? "Oh I'm sorry. Our company doesn't work that way. You want me to give you the number of a different cable company that can- [goews back to rubbing his nipples] Oh wait, we're it, aren't we? [rips off the patches and rubs his nipples again] Dangit, I guess you have to deal with it" Read more: » www.mediapost.com/publications/a···lYtjSJO"
See more on Know Your MemeI wonder how many Bright House call center reps are going to start rubbing their nipples when talking to customers over the phone after watching this south park episode. lol |

If you have a Newer TV with the Digital Tuner (QAM\ATSC Tuner????).....although Channel numbers wouldn't be the same (Channel 1008 would be 8.1); and, you would not get the upper channels..... you would be able to tune at least from 1 to 99 and get those basic channels....and not need a DA....? |
