HDMI problem

Hi, I am a new user to the forum and have a problem that others have had. I just recently started with BH. I have the SA8300HD box hooked to an Element TV on HDMI. The TV has a hard time with the HDMI hand shake. Some times it will work perfectly for hours on end. Turn the TV off and turn it back on later, and it may or may not lock on. The screen just goes black, flashes on, goes black, flashes on, etc. Turn it off and back on, and it usually works again. Once it works right, it usually works OK until switched off. When switched to component it works fine. It does this on all HDMI inputs, and my DVD player works perfectly on HDMI.

Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Sam

It is possible that the Element is wonky. I have to be honest with you. I have tested a lot of TV's including several element models (every Christmas I test all the el cheap stuff looking for that grand deal). I do not like them for this and a whole host of other reasons. Yes they are inexpensive but in this case you don't get what you pay for in my opinion. That said...if component works then use that because honestly with that TV you will not notice the difference between the two. We can try another box but I'm not sure that you would have a different experience. I'll let you decide and yes I did get your IM but your post belongs here And welcome I'm glad you finally posted in our public forums!

I find it strange that the DVD player never gives a problem, but I will not rule out the TV. But, if I could try another box and it did the same thing, then I would be content that it was the TV. As for getting what I paid for, I only paid 299 for a 42 inch set, so I don't feel too bad.

You may swap the box at your local office...let them know you have a possible compatibility issue with that box and they should be able to help. If not let me know in our direct forums.

Would there be any reason to try a different box than the SA8300HD?

TV's differ and so do boxes and the problem might not manifest in another box brand BUT this is rare and unlikely. It could also be a bad box.

I would say that my 8300 box is bad. I took the Cisco DTA 170HD that Brighthouse installed today and hooked it to my Element tv thru a 25 foot HDMI cable and the tv locked on to the signal immediately. Will go down Monday and see what else is available.

Remember thats a different device...the box may or may not be bad...but certainly worth the effort to try.
