1 edit | Upgrade 15/1 > 50/10,What to check at install? As the title states I've got n upgrade planned soon. Last time when I moved from Bell to Teksavvy it was a really complicated install procedure (4-5 tech visits), though I wasnt home for most of them to make sure all was good when the installer was done.
I wont be making same mistake this time, I chose a day when I will be home. I want to know what should I pay attention to the day of install to make sure the install was done up to standards? ping? attenuation? and if so how to check these stats: does tech provide a w/o with the stat detail at the end of install of all VDSL installs? Should I use other tools to test? any other suggestions welcome, thanks guys |

 | They won't need to come into your home, although they claim they need to.
As you are already on 15/1, a POTS splitter would have already been installed at the time of that activation. Actually, it many cases, service works fine even without a POTS splitter.
I'm sure you'll be charged a setup fee for the supposedly necessary home installation for your 50/10 service. The Telecon technician is literally going to do nothing other than make sure you modem syncs. You could do that yourself. That technician is supposed to install a POTS splitter but you already have one.
When you were hooked up to 15/1, you were likely removed to a remote DSLAM of some type. For your 50/10 service, you might very well stay on that same connection. I'm willing to bet that the upgrade will be nothing more than a profile change.
When I upgraded from 6/0.8 to 15/1, it was nothing more than a profile change as I was already on the same stinger as I am now. The POTS splitter did nothing to improve the connection. (still had to pay a ridiculous nearly $100 setup fee because of the nonsense Telecon visit)
In a nutshell, this upgrade should be very simple. And yeah the "setup" fee you will be charged is baloney because everything that the supposedly justifies that charge has already been done on your line. |

If you have a camcorder and it is possible to have it look out a window and record your door access, do so. (Put it on the lowest quality for the longest recording time). Then you'll have some record if they don't bother to knock or even show up.
Good luck! |

If the current POTS splitter installation is already giving you good sync on 15/1, probably best it's not touched. |

| Yes I currently have a pots splitter my stats seem pretty good right now. So essentially the POTS splitter will operate the same way it does now, only for 50/10?
there for if it is currently good, best not to touch it?
Also would ping be impacted positively with 50/10? |

Yes I'm aware of the install fee, I did some math and over a long span of time it should be ok.
Also I really like the prospect of getting 50/10! I had the old grandfathered bell 6/1 plan from like 2002-2009 so jumping to almost 10x the speed in 2-3 years is great! |

Re: Upgrade 15/1 > 50/10,What to check at install? $100 ? I thought it only cost $50? Is there a hidden fee? |
|
 | yes I believe the fee is indeed standard 50$ now. |

|
 | those are current stats the remote is a Stinger it seems
So if the adsl stats are good would they carry over to Vdsl stats?
thanks |

Mike2009 join:2009-01-13 Ottawa, ON kudos:3 | VDSL stats can be totally different. Why do you say you're on a stinger? |
|
 | Ah so my current stats wont nevessarily be any indication of things to come. The only positive thing is im guessing the distance wont change, so that ok.
I asked Teksavvy, they advised me im on a stinger. I was being pro-active. |

Check and make sure your phone is working before they leave if you can (if you have a regular land line phone). The Bell guy cut mine off when doing the work down in the apartment building phone room. Took a couple of days to get it up and running again. They were upgrading me from Legacy 6/.08 to VDSL 25/10. A little annoying as our building access system is tied into the phone line, but I must say that TekSavvy were very good about getting onto the problem right away. |
