Android VOIP won't register using a router in DMZ on U-Verse

Hi,

I have U-Verse with a Pace 5031NV in front of an Asus RT-N66U router. The Asus i operate in a DMZ set on the Pace. It all works except for one thing: The Voxofon VOIP app for Android (built in CSipSimple) wont register the SIP at all. It times out. If I use the Asus alone on a cable connection it works. If I use wireless on the Pace directly it works, and if I use the Asus as an AP on the Pace it works. But with the Asus in DMZPlus on the Pace it won't work. I have tried all kinds of port forwarding and messed around with the settings on the Asus, but since it works with the Asus on other connections (not U-Verse) I think it must have to do with the DMZ on the Pace. I have of course set the Pace based on router behind router guides for U-Verse so there's not much more I can do on the Pace to resolve this either. Could it be that port 5070 which is used by Voxofon is blocked in the DMZ for some reason?

I do not expect to be able to resolve this, but it won't harm asking. Ideas anyone?

If you do NOT have U-Verse Voice, get yourself the (harder to find) Motorola 2210/2310

The 2210 (ADSL2+)/2310 (VDSL2) IMHO is the modem to use if you are a U-Verse Internet only customer, serviced by single pair xDSL, and you are planning to use your own router

I just got the Pace as a replacement for an old 2-wire. Would I have to purchase a Motorola myself or how would I go about it

It would have to be purchased.

You can try the secondary market (eBay, Craigslist, etc) - the modem would need current firmware to work with U-Verse, and if attained via the secondary market, there is no warranty from AT&T.

To get it from AT&T, basically it requires technician availability and delivery. From what I have heard, neither Tech Support nor Sales can have the Moto 2310 shipped (though I do not understand why).

And unless something has changed, none of the U-Verse Customer-owned modems are available for ordering on the AT&T Online Equipment Store

Not all techs may carry the 2210 or 2310, but someone should have it if phone calls are made. I carry both, but rarely use either (I think I have used 2 2310s, ever, in about the 3 or so years they have been around for use)

Why they don't allow people to just purchase them directly, we will likely never know.

I did something very similar and it worked. Netgear in DMZ with a 2wire 3800. Android CSipSimple and a Asterisk on Amazon EC2.

I did not have to do any ports forwarding. It did take some fiddling but I had the luxury of seeing both side of the SIP communication.

CSipSimple has lot of setting and it should work in almost any setting. Not that useful if it only works at home. How much setting does the Voxofon VOIP app have? Can you use UDP as the transport protocol?

Yes, it worked on my previous 2wire 3800, but not with the new Pace they gave me. If you could give me some pointers on port forwarding I would be eternally grateful, but I think I have tried everything possible at this point. I have a feeling that port 5070 which Voxofon uses is blocked in the DMZ, and although Voxofon is built on CSipSimple a lot of the settings are hardcoded in the app and can't be changed. I think I'll move to cable. I can get more bandwidth for less anyway. Thanks!
