[Internet] Bell Fibe Internet extremely slow

Hello,

We just switched our services from Videotron to Bell a couple months ago and at first everything was working great. HDTV was performing well. We were getting 15MB download speeds fine, etc... A couple days in, I tried to perform a speed test just to see what I was actually getting. To my surprise, I was getting 15MB download but only 1-2 upload. Now from my understanding, I thought it was supposed to at least 10MB?

Called up Bell the next day only to have a gentlemen tell me that my line had to be downgraded to a 15MB down / 3MB up line since I was a bit too far from the fiber point... Now again, I was under the impression that because this was Fiber that all those (too far from the nearest hub) problems from the legacy DSL lines would've diminished... Anyway, I didn't let it bother me, so I left it as is.

Unfortunately, things have gotten worse. In the past 3 weeks, we've had to call Bell 4 times because of outages. Once, they had to come and replace connection hub, another time they needed to do something on their end to "reactivate" the line and the other 2 times, we were asked to reset the connection hub.

Now, my latest issue is extremely slow speeds in the past 5 days, especially when my wife is recording on the PVR. When she's recording, the speed drops to dramatically. Last night while she was recording 2 shows, I had measured the download to 0.6 MB (using speedtest.net), which is crazy. When she stops recording, the speed goes back up again. Now I'm aware that the speed should go down while recording but not by THAT MUCH. My friend (who has Bell and is the one that referred me to Bell Fibe), has the same line and his download speed would only go down to 8MB when recording two different shows at the same time.

At this point, I just really want to know what my options are... When speaking to someone from Bell and asking them about whether or not the service will get better as they're expanding in our area, he was reluctant to give me an answer. Will my connection get better? Am I, in fact, too far from the nearest hub? Is there anything we can do to get this fixed? Is anyone else having the same issue?

Did they say how far you are by any chance? The fibre isnt run right into your house obviously so you are on fttn which has reduced the reliance on distance but it still matters. That being said, it seems to me your loop length is either too long and you need to call in a service call and be moved to pair bonding or there's a physical problem with the line which is where im leaning to if as you say everything worked fine for a few months and now the issues have popped up. A 15/10 customer should be set somewhere around 37/11 so the tv doesn't interfere with the internet traffic.

At thus point id direct you to post your issue in the direct forum of dslreports, and have a tech there take a look at your profile, line limits, etc. But they are generally not active on weekends. Normally I would offer to do it myself but I am enjoying a rare weekend off and dont have access to the software at home.

Or lastly as I said call in a service call for slow internet speeds and see what the tech finds and ask if the length is the issue and if pair bonding is available to you.

Download speeds of up to 25 Mbps
Upload speeds of up to 10 Mbps

Nothing is guaranteed.

Yes nothing os guaranteed but if they were getting their 15 down before they can get it again just something has happened obviously

Out of curiosity, what upload were you getting at its best?

When I original got my FTTN, I was only able to get a 1.77 up. The Bell tech told me there will be no way I can get Fibe TV to work properly with that kind of speed even if I wanted it. Since I wanted only internet (15/10) it was not an issue. That 1 extra mpbs as compared to the old High Speed of 0.6 mbps brought stability in ping when my old man's TVPad is streaming.

Thanks, I called Bell and mentioned about the pair bonding and they're sending someone over today to verify and implement if needed.

With all TV boxes turned off, the best upload speeds I'm getting is between 1-2MB. I've never had quality issues with the TV though.

I read in somewhere on the Bell tech hand held test device the wire distance from my house to the CO was 2 km. Physical straight line distance is 300 meters. I was betting I could have gotten the 10 mbps upload for sure but whoever the idiot that ran the wires in the neighborhood went the long way decades ago. You just have to wait for fibre in your neighborhood.
