1 recommendation | [Modem/Router] Modem/Router Sudden Failure I've been using a Verizon-supplied Westell 327W B90 model modem/router for quite a few years without any problems. Last evening the unit suddenly would no longer hold sync. It would take a VERY LONG time to sync and would then lose sync as soon as any data was put through. I can't really complain at all as the date code on the back of the unit was from June 2005.
Luckily for me I had a brand-new Verizon-supplied Westell 327W D90 model modem/router in reserve. I believe Verizon had sent it to me in the past (for free) when I had made a change to my DSL account. The date code on this new modem/router is from 2006. Anyway I had it up and running right away. I upgraded the firmware from version 4.00.00.02 (version installed at the factory) to the latest/newest version 4.04.03.00, re-did my wireless settings and I was all set to go. It's been holding sync for 15+ hours and counting.
The bottom line is that you should try to have a spare modem from Verizon available as a backup if at all possible, especially if your modem is as old as mine was (8+ years old). If you are ever offered a free modem from Verizon because of an account change, speed change, etc. by all means take them up on their offer. The alternative will involve you going days without a working modem until Verizon can send you a new one (? if it would be free or not) or you having to go to a local store to purchase one out of your pocket. |
