| Craftsman Evolv power tools I just bought a couple of the Craftsman Evolv series power tools (a jigsaw and a circular saw) at Sears.
I've always been a fan of Craftsman tools and most of my tools are craftsman.
My question is will the Craftsman Evolv power tools last or will I be replacing them in less than a year. The jigsaw was $30 and the circular saw was $40. -- I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV.
I have not and will not cut the cord. |

It depends on how much you use them, and how much you baby them. They aren't the Craftsman quality you grew up with, but they probably aren't any worse than the other options out there. -- Intel i7-2600k /ASRock P67 Extreme4 /4x 4Gb G.Skill /2x Intel 510 series 250Gb SSD /3x WD20EADS 2TB /2x PNY GTX 260 /Silverstone 850W /Custom water cooler /Antec Twelve-Hundred |

These days, Craftsman (I prefer Crapsman) power tools are typically low quality. Ryobi (Techtronic Industries) is their main manufacturer. Probably OK for fiddle-farting around the house, but not for serious use.
I would equate Craftsman with Black & Decker. Both are riding on a name that was long ago synonymous with quality. -- If someone refers to herself / himself as a "guru", they probably aren't. |

They had a circular saw made by Skill for about $10 more.
Another question: what power tool brands are good quality that tradesman use.
I've heard DeWalt is a good brand.
I know Craftsman has their professional line of tools but the circular saw will set you back about $129.
I intend on using the circular saw for DIY/around the house jobs.
I just built one of these so grandma could get in and out of the house easier, I'm thinking of building a second one for the lower part of the porch.

Edit: I don't know why but sometimes when I upload photos from my iPhone to DSLR they appear sideways. -- I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV.

Most of the professional termites I meet use three brands of circular saws: Skilsaw (The $250-400 type), Porter Cable, or Milwaukee.
If you're not into heavy construction, it probably doesn't make much sense to drop $200 on a saw. -- If someone refers to herself / himself as a "guru", they probably aren't. |

| And I looked into renting a circular saw at Home Depot tool rental and they got $19 for a day. I could put down $40 and own one.
My grandma's late ex-husband ran into a similar situation back in the 1970's with a chainsaw where he could rent one for $35 a day or buy a low end one for $70.
I found tool rental is only good for specialty tools. -- I've experienced ImOn (when they were McLeod USA), Mediacom, Comcast, and Time Warner and I currently have DirecTV. They are much better than broadcast TV.

I've always liked Craftsman hand tools, but I would never even consider a power tool with the Craftsman brand on it. As far as I'm concerned, their power tools may, or may not, be one step up from the junk at Harbor Freight. I've had very good performance and durability with DeWalt power tools. They're rugged and dependable. Not that some of the other brands are not... it's just that when I get good performance from a brand, I stick with it. -- Keep your eye on the ball, your shoulder to the wheel, your nose to the grindstone, and your ear to the ground. To answer your other question, about what pro's use...
Nunya nailed it for saws, for drilling/driving I see a lot of Hilti, a lot of Milwaukee, a good amount of Makita; some Mitabo, some Panasonic, and some deWalt (also riding what used to be an incredible name into the ground, although not as quickly as B&D).
Personally, I use Hilti for rotary hammers and hammer drills, and deWalt for impact drivers (I don't use it often enough to justify a 'better' brand)... |

Actually the big reason that DeWalt is being run into the ground is because it is now owned by B&D. |
