The same type of remote start kits that you can get for cars and trucks can also be used for generators. Automatic start kits exist that use a timer and start the generator after a previously set delay time has passed since the power outage began.
Remotely or automatically starting a motor can create safety issues. You are probably fine with a fully enclosed generator but I would not use automatic or remote start for a generator with exposed moving parts unless there is some way to guarantee that there will be nobody near it when it starts. -- Got some spare cpu cycles ? ...the relay on these units might not be rated enough amps to switch the starter motor directly, but you can always have that relay trigger another relay that is. |
