Help Needed with New Actiontec Gen 3 Router

Tech support fried my router so I just got a new one. I have never been able to get upload speeds approaching the 25 mbs that I am paying for. However, in trying to set up the new router I wired my computer directly to the router and the speeds were over 50/35.

Now that I have put the Netgear switch and Dlink DGL-4500 back in the signal chain I am back to slower upload speeds.

Since I don't use wireless much I can live with the Actiontec wireless. So, I'd like to take the Dlink router out of the picture. Can I wire the Netgear GS724T switch directly to the Actiontec? I tried to do that but I could see what address to put in the DMZ and port forwarding.

If this isn't possible, what's the best way to eliminate the Dlink router but maintain the ability to have 15-20 connections?

What does connecting a switch have to do with DMZ and port forwarding?

Obviously I am not sure, but when I connected the switch directly to the router none of my computers had an internet connection.

I have been playing with this and what I am confused about is do I need to configure any port forwarding if I am just using a switch connected to the actiontec? My current setup up has my router between the actiontec and the switch and all the ports are forwarded to the router IP (192.168.1.2). If I eliminate the router do I just clear all the port forwarding?

Remove the port forwarding, that was necessary when you had double NAT

When I connect the Netgear switch directly to the actiontec I do not get an internet connection with any of the computers connected to the switch. The switch shows up under my network but that's it. I know that the switch is ok since it works fine when my own router is in the signal chain.

What am I doing wrong?

Make sure the PC's are set to using dhcp for IP/DNS, hard reset the actiontec ( hold the reset button for 10 seconds ) to undo whatever you may have setup for doing the double NAT also do a hard reset on the Smart Switch, this will force it to relearn the mac addresses and exit route to the router.
