Does it have an electric starter?

Then you can use something like this to "press" the starter button for you...

Or better yet, you can start it, and then monitor other things about it (temperature, gas level, output voltage OK, etc.) with this...

...the relay on these units might not be rated enough amps to switch the starter motor directly, but you can always have that relay trigger another relay that is.

This is a portable generator...




This is ALSO a portable generator...




And there's a world of difference between them...

Get an proper automatic standby system, with transfer switch, power-loss detection and automatic start... Probably cost in the 2-3 grand range for a "home" grade one.

As was very correctly pointed out; it's not safe to rig a remote starter onto a system not meant for it. Life and Fire safety being the first to come to mind.
