[X1] X1 out all over the US !

My X1 went out about 10.30 and has not come back yet as of 12 AM and calls to comcast get hung up on and chat is out even the local number is down ! Heck It has blown up on Twitter about this outage ! This is crazy they should be on Twitter and letting people know but no one has come forward Yet !

The problem is, if they do something sensible like acknowledge this huge outage on Twitter or send an email to everyone affected (which is quite simple to do) then they are letting all the people who are asleep know about the outage. And they don't want to do that. Sadly most of the customers won't even know this happened. And that's the way they'd rather have it.

I don't know, mine went out around 9:15 pm which is during prime time here on the west coast... I'm sure enough noticed.

Outage is over. Just woke up - saw all this news - rebooted all of my STB's. Up and running now.

This is the most unacceptable part. The last time they had a national X1 issue, you could at least make service calls for other types of service (internet or telephone). However, this outage brought Comcast's entire customer service network to its knees. Every service call was being hung up on. So if you're land line phone was out (the only way 911 would be able to locate me), no luck. Really really pathetic. And as noted in another post, there is no public acknowledgement of any problem. So instead of going to bed and hoping that it will all work in the morning, you get pissed off trying to make a service call. Seriously, they should at least have some note on their web page (perhaps in the area where you're supposed to check for service outages).

Pooker-
In all fairness - their Twitter reps this morning had multiple posts about it.

I don't consider myself a Luddite by any means. But I've managed to avoid using twitter up until now. If Comcast uses that mechanism instead of the service outage page on its website, I suppose I'll have to set up an account and learn how to use it. Which feed(s) should I follow? The main xfinity feed does not appear to have any mention of this issue (no surprise).

@comcastcares tweeted:
If X1 customers are continuing to have problems, they should power cycle the X1 box by unplugging the power source for 30 seconds.

There is an article on the Engadget site about this outage:

Comcast's new X1 cable boxes are apparently suffering a nationwide outage

We were doubly blessed then. Our power went out at 12.30 and came back at 3.30. The cable box had the black screen - rebooted no luck - tried comcast no luck - and then googled and then went to sleep. Got up at 5.30 and it was back.

Noticed all the lights on the boxes flashing around midnight CDT, but figured it was updating the software and didn't bother to look into it any further. woke up this morning and everything was fine.

@comcast.net

Does anyone think if I call up to complain they would add on of the premium channels for a few months...I work days so I was actually really PO'ed about this last night

yes but you need to use the right words. here is what i will do and it had work for me with direct tv and uverse,

this will probably won't work if you are on a contract.
Call comcast , tell them you want to discontinue your service, they will ask you why, you tell them, Directv is offering you a great deal, and are impress by Directv Stablility, Tell them over the course of your time with comcast you have too many outages, no tv etc,.

then they might make you an offer, counter their offer with one of your own.

I got the free Cinemax for 3 months...The on demand does not seem to be working I guess I have to give it a little time?...I also have free showtime and Hbo and the on demand works fine on those.

sometimes with premium channels or channels that have an on demand subscription included you would need to call and talk to tech support because it is most likely the put in the configuration code for the people who have a dta instead of a box with on demand and that would be fixed when the tech puts in the right code
