Does you laptop have a display port?

Sure does. It's either a blue pinned cable connector.

The specs show a VGA port, you should be able to use a VGA to HDMI cable.

The reason I asked the above question is this... if your laptop has a dual mode DisplayPort as my Thinkpad X230 has, all you need is the readily available passive cable adapter, to have both laptop audio and video on your HDMI display or HDTV..

quote from Wikipedia article on the subject.......

"Dual-Mode DisplayPorts are designed to transmit a single-link DVI or HDMI 1.2/1.4 protocol across the interface through the use of an external passive adapter that selects the desired signal and converts the electrical signaling from LVDS to TMDS....."

I use the StarTech passive adapter below to do the job with my X230... for full 1920x1080 HDMI video and audio to my Sony Bravia HDTV.

Ports
USB
2 x USB 2.0
2 x USB 3.0

Video Port
1 x VGA

HDMI ***
1 x HDMI

If that is your exact laptop model, it already has HDMI output for TV.

You can also use USB 3.0 to HDMI converters, but that will cost $50-$80 extra, and the driver will use up a lot of the CPU cycles.

DVI or DisplayPort to HDMI cables do exit, but VGA to HDMI requires a complicated device. Your laptop does not have DVI or Displayport, but it has a VGA port.

Look at the back of the TV, it may also have a VGA port ... my cheap LCD TV has both HDMI and VGA.
