What is your typical monthly use?

I just checked my use at the end of my billing cycle and I used 51 gb of data for the Sept/October.

I am on the Sprint 4G network.

My typical use is this;
1) NBC nightly news every day. (30 min)
2) 2 hours +/- of Netflix set on the lowest video quality every day.
3) One hour of network television programming once a week.
4) TD Ameritrade Think or Swim platform on 24/7 but not streaming many products.
5) About 30 minutes per day playing games on steam.
6) Average of about 90 minutes per day surfing the web.

I did have one huge download this month of 18GB for a game (Fear 3) on Steam. I also had a windows update and Microsoft security essentials update install.

What are you typically seeing on a monthly basis?

between my wife and I (kids flew the coop long ago) we average about 40-50GB a month. Very little video streaming. a lot of the usage comes from my wife uploading images to galleries and collectors (she is a professional artist). I have several ways to connect - Verizon, Sprint, WISP, cable if I want it. Never go over any caps.

Jim,
I got the Sprint plan in order to get rid of my over the air antenna and my Netflix by mail plan. 3G worked well with Think or Swim but never with the streaming video.

If I hadn't downloaded the 18gb game it would have been well below the caps. All in all it seems as if 50GB is reasonable with my usage habits.

why did you get rid of the OTA antenna? I keep that as a backup

I am 52 miles from the nearest broadcast tower and got tired of messing with it. I have a lot of trees and hills in that direction and never could pull in a reliable signal. I figured that it wasn't worth throwing money at if everything I watch could be seen on the internet.

I finally gave up on it when a storm came through and blew over the TV antenna.

I'm 47 miles away from the nearest stations in Hampton Roads and get excellent reception OTA. I have Directv but keep the antenna for backup and periods of rain fade with the dish.

As far as my data use I don't have a clue. Never check it.

I check periodically, if my usage seems high I block domains accordingly.

Normally push between 15-20 GB each month through the Verizon Hotspot plan. Much of the usage comes from my end via streaming video and randomly visiting sites. I have two cell phones and two other computers in my house that connect to the hotspot that my family uses either for Facebook, browsing and the occasional Flash/ mobile game.

I agree with you Fred. Personally, after I had viewed all the available porn on the internet there was little left to do but look at news websites and cat pictures on Facebook.

In all seriousness though I agree "surfing the web" isn't what it used to be for me. I have a handful of websites I check out regularly and only "surf" when I am going to buy something or need advice on how to fix something. The majority of my use is educational resources, trading and netflix.
