[MLB] World Series games

Surprised there is no thread already.

That Boston game yesterday was nuts..........Detroit had a no hitter going for almost 6 innings then Big Pappy smokes a grand slam in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game at 5.

Boston completes the comeback in the ninth and ties the series.

Slow forum and when it's active, it's 99% football

I cried after that game. So glad they didn't have to fight off another no-hitter. That shot by Papi was beautiful. 1st pitch goes boom just over Hunter's grasp. Loved it.

This play was really damn good too.

I guess that made up for the 1 to 0 game that Boston lost Saturday. Boston just got 1 hit in the ninth inning.

Even there it looks rather slow. Nothing about today's game yet.

You know, I haven't watched a single playoff game this year... Not sure why but for some reason I don't have the interest... I'll probably tune in once it gets to the world series...

I've been keeping track of most of the games, but I'm slowly losing interest as both Boston and the Cards are winning.

Want to see a Dodgers and Tigers WS...............I hate the Cards, they've been there just too many times.

Both series will be close but the Sox and Cards will prevail.

Sox make WS with another clutch grand slam.
Same opponent as 2004.
Bet Boston is buzzing

That was a pretty incredible moment. I generally only watch baseball during the WS but TV happened to be on a few minutes prior to the slam... awesome to watch.

Yes, spectacular FAIL by Detroit, also including such bush league highlights as clutch fielding muffs and Fielder's beached whale base-running talents.

Detroit didn't deserve to drag the series out any longer. Boston is the better team, atm.

I'd like it to be an evenly-matched series. So far, so good.

Is there any player that is more clutch than Pappy Ortiz though?

17 hrs in the post season and most are all important hits.

He will most likely play in the field in St. Louis. That's an advantage for St. Louis. I don't follow things closely but when was the last time Ortiz played defense?

Obstruction or not? Weird ending to game

Obstruction or not? Cards beat Boston on controversial call by ump. »msn.foxsports.com/mlb/st ··· x-102613

The rules were called right by ump. But it is a bad way to end a World Series game that was going to extra innings. A walk off obstruction call ends the game.

Re: [MLB] World Series games

Its being ruled as controversal. looked to me pretty clear. Especially since he lifted his legs twice. He knew what he was doing. I dont honestly believe anyone would think he doesnt score if the third baseman doesnt lift his legs.

That was a BS call and should never have been made!

If they're going to start following the letter of the law in ball games ,then they better start making the 2nd baseman actually touch the bag on double plays.

That was a brutal call by a brutal ump.

I agree 2nd baseman touch the bag or no out.
In this case, it doesn't matter whether it was intentional or not, it's obstruction.
said by da link :

Obstruction is also among the terms defined in Rule 2.0. Most germane to this play is part of a comment in this section: "After a fielder has made an attempt to field a ball and missed, he can no longer be in the act of fielding the ball. For example: If an infielder dives at a ground ball and the ball passes him and he continues to lie on the ground and delays the progress of the runner, he very likely has obstructed the runner."

Furthermore, if Craig doesn't fall down, there's no play at the plate.

Not down with pickin' and choosin' which rules to follow.

I will look around but there was an article last week that addressed exactly that. It said that next year the play will get a much closer look.

I have watched hat play numerous times and read the rules. IMO it was the right call.

Boston lost a World Series game not many years ago where the same thing happened and it wasn't called and people screamed about that. And if it wasn't this time, people would be screaming it should have been.

Jim Joyce is known as one of the best umps in the game. You calling him brutal tells me how to consider your opinion of the play.

btw, two Boston sports writers have said the call was correct and should have been called. Here's one

It was the right call based on the rules. It was the wrong call overall since the rule is flawed. We all know the intent of the rule but it failed in that instance.
